At the end of March I disputed a collection account with United Collection Bureau. We paid the collection 2.27.13--all CRA state that it was paid as of 3.13. I guess my issue with this is, UCB never contacted us. When we paid the collection, they had sold the collection to George Gusses Office (Lawyer). I sent the paid in full letter from Gusses office to all 3 CRA and asked that any information given by UBC be deleted. I have received responses from them saying that the debit was verified. I have done the opt out. How do I proceed since I've done the steps out of order? Or at this point will it even work for our situation?

This is actually for my DH. I've been working on his CR for over a year now. There are so many things I wish I would have known!!

Any suggestions???!!! Thank you in advance. This is holding us back from scores high enough for a good mortgage rate as we have found a home we want to purchase but don't want a high interest rate.

Is there a place where the HIPPA letter trail is written, step by step?

I suggest you start over. Once you have opted out and deleted old addresses you can start by sending the initial dispute letters to the CRAs.

IF you have recently sent a dispute to any CRA, then you should wait 60 days from your last communication with the CRA to send the initial dispute letter to them as otherwise your disputes will get merged.

It makes no difference if you have been in communication with either the OC, or the reporting CA as whatever communication you would have had with them would not have invoked the HIPAA rules and therefore will not interfere with the HIPAA letter program.
