Sent CA Medical Dispute Validation Letter

CA sent bill from OC which gives me proper relationship

The charges are legit and I want to pay with insert A to OC

 

My question is....

 

The CA added a collection fee of $13.80 to the amount I owe. Do I pay the OC this fee or just pay what my EOB says I owe?

 

Just for reference incase you need it, I live in TN and the DOS is 1/5/10.

What was the response from the CRAs??What was the DATE on the bill copy they sent you?? ( not the date of service, but the date the OC transmitted it to the CA)

The account is only on two of my three credit reports. I have disputed with both. They came back verified. The date of referral to the CA is 8/27/10. The date the OC transmitted the bill to the CA is 2/16/13.

From a billing perspective: NO you do not pay this fee. This is nothing but additional profit the collection agency is tacking on to your bill. If you can pay the original medical provider even better. You are only legally responsible for the amount on your EOB. Billing anything over that is illegal unless they get a judgment against you and can add post judgment interest within state law guidelines.

OK-- that means they ARE in a current business relationship, go ahead and pay with the HIPAA letter insert "a"

Just the amount in the EOB. The collection fee is illegal.
