I'm thinking from your signature you're a U.S. resident. If you have no connection to Canada there may be a few store cards you can get. The Bay, Canadian Tire, etc. Worth a try.

As far as a Visa or MasterCard from a major Canadian bank, that will be more difficult. My suggestion is to go to a branch there in person, with all your ID, references, proof of assets, income, employment and a bank letter of reference. If you're lucky, they may offer you a secured card. No guarantees, though.

Thanks for the info. I plan on setting up an office in Canada in the future so I wanted to get a head start on building

credit there. Seems like they are even more paranoid than US banks as far as new customers. I will give the tire card

a shot.

My Canadian Tire car expired a long time ago. I still have The Bay. It has got more difficult to get credit in Canada as a non-resident. That's why I suggest going to a bank branch to discuss your situation. Communicating by mail and phone won't be enough until they know you. If you don't live near the border, combine this with your next trip. In this case, do call them first to let them know and ask what they need. I do have a banking relationship with a major Canadian bank. It's something I'm careful with.

Good advice, thanks!
