I have a first mortgage with citibank which i havent paid in about 3.5 years. owe $240 approx., I have a line of credit with Countrywide $144,000 (per credit report balance was charged off). I was living in the home until Hurricane Sandy damaged my house (3 feet of water throughout entire house). I have initiated the flood insurance claim as i intend to give to the bank.. however, the checks are coming in My name, citibank and Countrywide Mortgage. The reason for my not paying my mortgage was my husbands long battle with cancer. he passed away November of 2009 which was prior to the modification I was trying to work out finalized. this is such a mess now. I am considering bankrupcy but also thinking about going on some type of credit repayment program. I have had 0 contact with the banks.. dealtt with the loss of my husband and being a single mother. I kind of just gave up. I want to face the world again. Now since the 2nd mortgage was charged off and they are on the checks from the flood ins. who would i contact at that bank to get them to sign the checks. Any ideas from anyone on what my first step shld be? Is anyone else in this situation? Just need to get some insight to move forward. also just venting and thinking out loud.
