Just wondering if anyone has a recomendation for a forum that would be similar in spirit to CB but related to investing?

Not major investing, just trying to stick a little aside each paycheck and put it in the market.

most of the ones I've check out over the years stink since there are always people shilling or trying to give one-size-fits-all advice.

frankly you could do a lot worse than ask your specific question in this forum since there are some really wise financial types here.

Usually the way new forums or subforums get started is when people are discussing a topic, and interest grows, so that more and more people get interested.

Disagree. The problem with CB is that people give answers without judging. People post in the mortgage forum all the time and people say "Go for it!" even though they should not be getting loans. If you just want someone to agree to justify your decisions then this is the place. CB is more of a Support forum most of all. That's not good or bad. It makes it different. If you want expert mortgage advice there is no place better. If you want expert credit advice this is the place. With investing, I doubt that knowledge is here. But I prefer a forum who questions your decisions and backs them up with their opinion/facts. Bogle Forums is the best, I think.

CB is good for what it is. No need in adding an investing forum when better products are out there. No one can touch the mortgage and credit advice of CB. That's their niche.

Look at this thread for an example. Someone with appparently little investment knowledge is wanting to get into DRIPS yet no one has thrown up the stop sign. Getting into DRIPS before 401ks or iras is not smart. Yet if I said that directly to that person a mod would warn me.

Other then hedge, I wouldn't trust investment advice from anyone here. No need in reinventing the wheel.

I don't know that I disagree with any of that; let me think on it. Maybe I'm just haven't gotten a feel for Bogle forums yet but at a glance I didn't like the feel.

You want to learn about investing? Read this article. Investing is boring. It's impossible for most to grasp the idea of the long term such as 30 years. If you follow Buffet's premise (help on the Bogle forums) then the average bear will be ok. But that's the issue. It's not exciting. No, there is not one size fits all but in all honesty if you follow very basic rules of thumb you will be good in the long run. But if you're in the mindset of buying/selling the hottest stocks then good luck. I'll take my adice from Mr. Buffett.

I'd participate in such a subforum as long as "hot tips" and such were disallowed.

Agreed. I think a subforum would have to be heavily moderated and strict rules apply. I would hate to have penny pushers come on the board to push their crap.

Would it make sense to have an investing subforum here?

That would be excellent.

Completely agree - as well as a watchful eye on who posts, and what their agenda(s) might include.

Are there still companies who make their dividend reinvestment programs available on the net? I know I get little blurbs from the power company here to participate in their dividend reinvestment program.

like this https://www.dom.com/investors/shareholder-services/buy-stock-direct.jsp

Dig around and you'll find more.

ComputerShare has a pretty extensive list of companies that they manage the DRIP's for. I recently started an account with them. So far its been easy, they take a set amount from my checking on 25th of every month, and usually a week later or so I get the confirmation on how much was purchased with my investment.

Mr Money Mustache is a very good personal finance blog that has several forums that covers investment ideas and strategies. The blog is based around being extremely frugal and saving a ton of money. It has a tight and loyal community just like here, and each offer something that the other doesn't.
