I stumbled upon this forum earlier today searching for help and have been very pleasantly surprised with the help I have received. With that said, I would like to post something that I hope will be useful, or at least interesting, to some of the members here. I am a huge proponent of being a lifelong student and have found that Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) provide a great way to continue learning. The classes are not necessarily going to get you a job, but I think that it is always beneficial to learn some new skills! Plus, a number of websites offer these classes for FREE!

Anyways, one of the courses that I have found through Coursera is Fundamentals of Personal Financial Planning. This particular course is scheduled to begin on January 14th, 2013 and sounds promising for learning more about financial planning.

The link to the course is Personal Financial Planning , again this is offered through Coursera which is one of the major companies offering MOOCs these days. I am not affiliated with Coursera in any way other than the fact that I am currently enrolled in another course they offer.

I looked through the rules and don't believe that I have violated any by posting this, but if I have please let me know.

Thanks :)

Nice find. Coursera is a really cool resource, but I never thought of looking for anything like this on there.

I'd enroll, but I'm already signed up for quite a few credited course hours for winter quarter.

Yea the other major MOOC sites tend to focus on engineering, computer science, and other areas that are mathematically intensive as it is easy to create assignment that can be automatically graded. Coursera, and probably other sites as well, are starting to add other areas of study as well though. From what I read the course I linked to doesn't have any assignments so it may be worthwhile to sign up for it anyways. You may be able to download the information and review it at some point when you're less busy. I recently left a graduate program and love Coursera because it allows me to learn about some areas outside of my traditional field of study for free.

YOu can link to sites like that - If you've heard that we're strict, well, just on the spammers. :D

ETA: there is a list of colleges and universities in the steals n deals forum, where you can audit most college and grad level courses for free.

The OpenCourseWare Consortium you linked in the other section is definitely a nice resource for searching specific topics. I found that a lot of the topics I was looking for had mainly notes available, which are certainly very useful in many cases, but that Coursera functions more like a traditional class. A community forum is setup for each course where people can ask questions about the material and I find that having the video lectures available is very helpful as well. I didn't find a convenient way to browse through the OCW Consortium by subject which I am able to do on Coursera. I like being able to browse through the classes they offer to find something that sounds interesting, although I may not know beforehand that it sounds interesting. Hopefully this will serve as another good reference for people looking to continue learning for free :)
