A company called me today "trying" to help me build my credit. their company is called lexington law firm. What they suggested and the ways they could help would be wonderful...then they told me the catch, $99.95 a month til everything is off my credit report. Has anyone heard of them?

Welcome to CreditBoards! We hope that you find what you're looking for here.

Some helpful tips:

  • Your post may not get a reply right away. Don't be discouraged, this is a very busy board. If it falls off of the first page, feel free
to reply to your post yourself, with the word *bump* in the text. This will *bump* your post back up to the top of the board.
  • If you haven't yet, take a peek at out Newbies Section.
Everything that you need to know is in that forum, for the most part! It's a lot of reading, we know, but this credit stuff can have a steep learning curve. In no time, you'll be posting like the pros!
  • If you find that someone is discourteous to you, use the REPORT button at the bottom of every post - that will ensure that a moderator or admin looks at the post and decides if it is against the TOS.
  • Off -topic posts should go in the General Forum.

Again, welcome to the CreditBoards family!

How many months can you afford $99.95? There is no motivation for them to hurry while you continue to pay.

Or, you could learn here for FREE how to repair/rebuild your credit yourself! Just as there are many negatives to hiring someone else to repair your credit, there are as many more positives to doing it yourself.

There has been some discussion of Lexington Law here on CB. Some CBers have used them but from what I have heard, most have done better themselves by availing themselves of the wealth of knowledge here.

Ill agree with everybody here. I was going to use a credit repair place. Instead I've saved myself 50 bucks a month and have been able to clean up my credit. Granted, I've got a long way to go. But, credit boards was a great place to learn and get started.

haha. my apologies.

I thought I used this account on creditboards before. guess that was my first post then.

From the top authorities on this board: mouse-over the link - if it says skimlinks, it is our excellent unobtrusive in-post advertising link program, which is European based, and we have been after them for more US based services related to money, credit and finance. Everyone knows about Lex, we don't give them our links and we will not sell you to them as leads - for which they pay extremely well. We don't accuse them of any dishonesty. The author of one of our beginner's threads works or did work for them, and truly cares. You may see them in other ad links, we have not locked them out of paid advertising here.

We are just DIY. period.

We do not sell any kind of contact info and once you have registered if you want even more privacy and don't know what to do, let me know. We don't want your information. We don't care. The less we have the better. We know we could be targets for that. jasonw is the best. Pammie is the best. No one is getting anything. ;)

$100 a month? What a great hustle. Since CRA disputes take at least 30 days, they're almost guaranteed a nice chunk from everybody before you wise up. Nice work if you can get it. I've been offered to help others with their credit and it would be a nice little side gig but I'm too busy with my own. As soon as I think I've got it and can take a break, something will pop up and I'm back in the game again. So I wonder if the Lex Law folks have enough time on their hands invididually to give their client accounts their undivided attention. I spend so much time reading and researching and updating my charts, lol. It's like a second job.

I just refer people to free sites and tell them to start reading. it's really worth it to do it yourself though. If you don't, then you won't realize HOW you got there or HOW to keep from going back! If you just hand someone money to do it for you, I'm afraid the odds are high you'll mess it up again.

As the others have said, there's nothing Lexington Law can do for you that you can't do yourself with just the information on this site. And you'll do it better and faster. You can write the same letters and do the same follow-up (actually, *better* follow-up) for just the cost of some time and certified mail receipts.

You're going to be FAR more motivated than they are to get these items off your credit report. The day they get the last baddie removed from your file is the day their gravy-train from you stops.

Thank you all for your insight. My naive self thought, "Wow! That's really nice of them to want to help me better my credit." However, I knew the catch was coming. Now they won't stop calling. Four voicemails from them just today. I will gladly take the time and do the work myself. Whoever said it's more satisfying, I completely agree!!

I did lexington law about a year ago for three months when I was thinking I was getting out of the Army.. Out of three months they removed 1 item and it was some old credit card that was 5 years old. they only dispute 3 items at a time .... so three items a month. so max that can fall off in a month is three. you can dispute all your items in a month for $6 each (cert rr mail) so as someone who has used it DONT use em. also my ex wife is using them now and aint done jack for her in 2 months. BUT I am not going tell her anything !!!

Took me 3 years to do it all myself....

Except for one company that paid ME, I spent very little....

Those folks at Lexington dont do anything you cant do yourself.

Also with lexington there is no tracking letters so if you do want to sue you have no ground to stand on showing you sent letters. I been doing mine for a month now maybe and i have 11 inq taken off 3 neg all myself

Yes, they are probably the largest credit repair company in the country, i have seen reviews that are both positive and negative. I am always careful with reviews as many of them have affiliate links attached to them and lexington law pays one of the highest referral fees out there.

I would look at the companies motivation, if you are paying every month what is their motivation to finish the job? if they finish they lose a client.

I recommend that you try to use these boards to remove as much as possible and if you must go to a credit repair company choose one that offers a pay after deletion option, that way you know you are only paying for items after they are deleted.

I hope this helps

Just ask them to stop calling you - I think they will. If it's an auto dialer, it may take a few days. They're not crooks or bad guys, it's just that we are DIY - and we believe that what you learn from doing it yourself is much much more than you will realize until you're done. You'll never be an unwilling doormat again, you will know which laws apply to which states, and how to find them. I could go on....

Lex was online when people were using set-the-phone-in-the-modem-cradle and terminals with no graphic interface. ;)

really?

Send a copy of that letter off the the FTC

http://www.ftc.gov/b...edit/cre13.shtm

If you see a credit repair offer, here's how to tell if the company behind it is up to no good:

  • The company wants you to pay for credit repair services before they provide any services. Under the Credit Repair Organizations Act, credit repair companies cannot require you to pay until they have completed the services they have promised.
  • The company doesn't tell you your rights and what you can do for yourself for free.
  • The company recommends that you do not contact any of the three major national credit reporting companies directly.
  • The company tells you they can get rid of most or all the negative credit information in your credit report, even if that information is accurate and current.
  • The company suggests that you try to invent a "new" credit identity — and then, a new credit report — by applying for an Employer Identification Number to use instead of your Social Security number.
  • The company advises you to dispute all the information in your credit report, regardless of its accuracy or timeliness

And I like to know how they got your information that you need credit repair - is the CRA's marketing names and scores agaiin?
