We had a baby last year. We thought we had kept on top of all the medical billing, but apparently we missed something. Approximately $400 has been sent to NCO for collection from our hospital. My wife called the hospital last week (after she received a call from NCO, first we realized it hadn't been paid), trying to pay the bill. The hospital said they couldn't take the payment, it would have to go through NCO at this time. The hospital also said that as long as it was paid within 45 days, it would not show up on her credit report.
We're just wanting to get this paid in the most timely manner possible, without it showing up on her (otherwise immaculate) credit report. We have not yet pulled her credit report to confirm it has (or has not) been reported. Hospital says it has not.
Is this something that should be handled through he HIPPAA process as well? Even if it has not actually made it to the credit report?
Medical bill went to CA, not yet on report

I have the same question. What do I send to the CA? A DV letter?

If the hospital doesn't have the ability to be able to accept payment, then what power do they have to keep the account from being listed on your CR? NCO is a JBD, and they fold like origami.
read what rslifkin had to say about NCO - it's good stuff.
I also dealt with NCO and beat them. I read a lot of posts about where people DV them and they disappear.
If the account is not showing up on your CR as of yet, just leave it be. If and when NCO decides to list it, you can deal with it. You'll have a good chance of the folding you with a simple DV letter, and they're silly enough to violate.

OPT OUT ( both of you)
http://www.whychat.5...OPTOUTINST.HTML
Send NCO this:
http://www.whychat.5...cavalhipaa.html
Pull your reports
To order, visit annualcreditreport.com,or call 1-877-322-8228
Get your EOMBs from your insurance to see if, in fact you have any left over bill.
If you weren't billed by the hospital then it is more than likely that there IS NO "left over" bill to pay and NCO received the account because of either a delay in your insurance paying, or because you were ILLEGALLY billed the difference between the original bill and the "discounted" insurance allowance.
