Anyone else use Yahoo for e-mail? Are you having the issue where it seems to keep asking for a password throughout the day? It's only happened for the past few weeks but it's annoying.

They had some kind of breach not too long ago that involved mail accounts being hijacked. They knew which accounts were compromised, and were doing something to stop the bad guys from gaining access. From an email account, they can get all kinds of information, change passwords on other accounts, etc.

 

Perhaps your account was one of them.

YES. My iPhone tells me it's wrong too even though it's pushing emails. Also I tried to use the website from my phone and it repeatedly said my username or password was wrong when it was not at all.

I remembered reading about that.... I wonder how I can find out. I did the latest upgrade so I'll see if that changes things.

For me I feel like yahoo and iProducts just aren't meshing. My MacBook hates yahoo too and I can't even use mail there.

Yeah, this is using Firefox on a MBP. Even after upgrading their mail system seems to freeze a lot. I could just switch or use bootcamp to log in through Windows, but that seems like a royal pain.

 

And yeah my iphone has been doing that a lot. I usually have to remove the account and add it back for it to stop.

Yes! Almost exactly the same story for me. I haven't used ff on my mbp but I use safari. It works okay from there but the mail app on the phone and laptop SUCKS.

I don't like what yahoo has done to change their mail, and I don't even use it anywhere but on the big computer.

Okay I'm done with Yahoo email. I upgraded and it keeps erroring out. I just spent 15 minutes composing and revising an important email and I tried to send it and it errored out. Of course the saved "draft" version was before all of my tweaks. :aggressive:

 

 

So... what web based email is great these days and does NOT have these problems?

This is so awful... so I try to report the issue and it wouldn't accept the captcha text. It finally does and I get

I've used Hotmail for a very long time - never any problems.

 

(Also...when i was trying to reply, I accidentally hit "report." I think I stopped it in time, but just in case.........)

Between you and BDK I must be on the mods shtlist today.

 

I had Hotmail 10-12 years ago and the spam was unbearable. I'm sure it's much better now but I may give gmail a shot. Ugh... going to have to move all my my stuff over eventually too.

maybe u should try aol mail..unsure if they give out them anymore, maybe they are all aim now. i've had them almost since the start and i gotta say they have almost no issues. i am not a fan of their continual upgrading but you can usually change out the themes back to standard if you want. also for some reason they have no limits on me..i have over 32000 emails in there but in another aol account, on the same master account, things get wiped out 'relatively quickly' and i dont know why. maybe becuase i rarely use that email..was only for a specific purpose

 

thats the one thing about yahoo and hotmail which is nice, no dormancy issues...well i think hotmail may have one but with your regular usage it's no issue.

Yeah I have an older Yahoo mail account from when I was in high school but it was inundated with spam years ago. Since then I've become a lot more selective about where I provide my real email address. I still find some old things linked to that old account and have to sift through hundreds of daily spam emails to find it. But hey, at least I'll know where to get cheap Viagra in 2045.

doesnt matter if you give email address out. if you email 'someone' then ur address is compromised. there's one address i never give out except to a few people but their accounts get hacked so you get the spam from their account and thus ur address becomes 'public'

 

also one time years ago i opened up a hotmai account and did nothing with it for a while.yet it got spam! i guess dictionary attack or something

 

kinda shocked you get hundreds of yahoo spam...i get very few spam things in inbox..a few nigerian once get thru

Yeah my main Yahoo account so far only gets 3-4 a day and they mostly land in the spam folder. The old one gets hundreds, with at least half of them in the inbox.

Didn't I read not long back something about gmail having serious issues, being compromised...something along those lines? Whatever it was I read (and probably didn't understand), I just remember thinking I was glad I didn't have it.

 

I actually have 2 hotmail addresses - one I use with friends, etc. The other I use when I sign up for things, message boards, etc. I've never had any spam on what I call my "personal" account. However, after signing up for Credit Karma and a few other things, the second account has been hit hard and heavy with spam. I'm thinking it has to do with those types of sites since 99% of it has to do with CC offers, debt consolidation - those types of things. Kind of worrisome.

This is so stupid...

 

The 999 error is caused by unusually high activity from either your computer or your IP address to a specific page or pages within Yahoo!.

 

Basically it's saying that you can't check your email too often from home. Most of the time it refreshes on its own, but maybe every hour or two I'll manually hit the refresh button (not the page refresh, just the check mail button) and still gets this stupid error.
