I am pretty bored today and decided I wanted a new AMEX card. Now my current INQ's are: EX-9, TU-5, EQ-5. I figured, worst case scenario I would be denied.

So I applied for an AMEX Blue Cash Everyday card. No instant approval. No biggie. Application status weblink will help me out. Approved. Nice, not shabby. Call up the CSR line to see what the line will be. $2,000. Not great, but better than a denial and I do like AMEX customer service. I was told I could apply for a CLI in 60 days and that AMEX determines CLI's by spending patterns, balances etc.

Now here's the thing. I got turned down on my CLI attempt for my AMEX Jetblue Card. My line on that is $9,600. Now, I have a little OCD and numbers like that bother me so I wanted a CLI up to $12,000/$12,500 or $13,000. When I found out I was turned down I would have taken $400 just to make it an even $10,000.

What is so odd is that American Express will approve me for a $2,000 card but won't increase my current line from $9,600 up to $12,000?

Oh well, just figured I'd see if anyone else has simliar experiences. They pulled from EX only. I think I should be done in 2012 for CC apps.

I have that OCD issue too. My 1400 wm and 800 Dillard's bug the heck out of me.

These seemingly uneven results are not the least bit odd. Chase denied CLI on 3k Amazon visa then approved a five figure CL card within several hours with the exact same report info. except an additional INQ.

There are so many variables, that vary from one request/product/day of the week, hour to hour that these things happen all the time. Perhaps at the time I applied for the Amazon my profile capped the product at a certain CL?

Enjoy the BCE, nice card-wish I had one! In any case, initial approval amount seems almost inconsequential, unless in need of the additional credit now, due to hard free growth potential of the card.

fan here of 2, 5, 10, 12.5 etc. too
