What about that poor, sad Old Navy card sitting there in your signature. I'm sure it would like to feel some GECRB love...?

Ha ha... good catch... I did that one last week, bumped to $1000. I only got this card in the hopes that they'll convert to Visa down the road. Siggy update time... :)

If your looking to get an increase on your card you can call customer service and ask to speak to a underwriter or do the auto phone request. I would speak with the underwriter cause you can get more cli. By the way shoot for the stars when asking for cli. Good Luck!

Think an UW would be able to reopen a card? It's a positive account and payments are being made, but it's closed. I thought about calling asking them to reopen it and increase the limit. Thoughts?

If you don't mind me asking, why is your account closed? And yes I would give it a try. You never know until you ask.Good luck!

Possibly inactivity as its a discount tire card and well we just don't buy a ton of tires. Another option is because of a late payment years ago. It's a joint card and dh's brother missed it :/

Why would you even want to re-open an acount where the other joint owner didn't pay on time? You could expose yourself to additional late payments.

He does now, he's paid the balance way down. And he only missed one and they've had it for 7 years.

But, you do bring up a good point. Thanks!

They did... freeze all my accounts. I was able to fax in some docs and explain what I was up to, and they unfroze them all 24 hours later. Wasn't pleasant, and I feel like I had it coming for doing ALL of my GECRB accounts in the course of basically 10-14 days... but yeah... if you don't want to go through that, maybe stagger the requests every other week or so. Even with that kind of delay, its still faster than playing the four month game.

That sounds very out of character for GECRB. They very very rarely do hard pulls for a CLI. It could be the CB effect though... if they all told you "against policy" it might be that policy has recently changed... however, Kayvebear posted a direct number to underwriting ("Credit Solutions" they call the department) so you can get around the cust. service reps. and try directly. Still very weird about the hards, though.

My CL are good enough for me, so I will give it a break and STOP asking for a while, they might get CLD if not careful

Its possible. More than one of us were able to do it with 2-3 month old Dillard's Amex cards.

I have a question regarding Lowe's and Walmart Discover - when do you count it being 4 months? From the date you were approved for the card, or from the first statement date? TIA!

From the 1st statement date or from the last CLI - whichever is later.

If you call the underwriters instead of using the automated system you might get one sooner. But I recently tried that and it didn't work. I was afraid the direct underwriters' line would soon fail due to the CB effect so I called a week early on my Lowe's card - DENIED. A week later (4 months + 1 day from my last CLI) I called back and was instantly approved for a HUGE increase. :D

IMHO it's better to wait 4 months + 1 day between requests unless you have a very good reason not to. There's a better chance of a CLI, a good chance it will be a bigger one, and less risk of unintended consequences. Of course when you do call you should shoot for the sky. :P

It works. They only gave me $2000 and I told him I will try back in 3 months, then he said you can try after 30 days

I called Lowe's yesterday and went through their automated system. I asked for a CLI from $2500 to $7500 and the system countered with $4000. I then spoke to a CSR who confirmed the $4000. I remembered this thread this morning and called back to speak to underwriting. The underwriter asked a few questions and put me on hold for a couple of minutes to review my Transunion file. He then came back on, asked a couple of verification questions, and then approved my CLI to $7500 :) I will let you know if it was a hard or soft inquiry on my TU report.

I will try Walmart Discover next week after it is paid off.

In all fairness, this thread was started days before yours. However, it appears your headline was sexier...
