i think the are pathetic and sad personally, if you cant afford a car that makes "real" noise (low powerful rumble that isnt over bearing) the fart pipe is just an insult to both yourself and everyone around you and is not a substitute. what is the allure of it? do you like that everyone in your neighborhood knows you are starting up your car and leaving? do you like not being able to sneak out on your wife? do you really think that the louder a car is the faster it will go or people will thikn it's a cool car? in an age where you really dont want to be a cop magnet or otherwise draw attention to yourself, id think you wouldnt want such a thing..or wait, maybe they do want attention even if it's the bad kind? or is it a security device .no one could drive away with it..or would anyone want to?

i really wanna know because i cant think of a single good reason why you would put a bee in a can on your car except if you are an attention $$$$$

There are some applications that justify a 3" straight pipe and for those cars, I oggle.

But I get what you are saying. These cars running around with stock 1.5L engines with coffee cans sticking out under the rear bumper are a bit annoying. I especially like the ones with the blue anodized tips.

It's almost as embarrassing as those cars that swap badges that don't even make sense. I have pics of a Saturn SL1 with BMW emblems.... a Caprice with Mercedes emblems... a Saturn SC1 with Saleen Mustang decals and emblems, and many more. Last week I saw a newer Hyundai Genesis coupe (which are pretty nice imo) with Aston Martin emblems. w....t....f.... It was a good early warning system for the person being a douche bag though, because not two seconds after I saw that, he cut me off to skip over two lanes.

I suppose its the same phenom as the Napoleon Complex

no i saw a 6ft something guy get out of one of the cars one time

 I don't think she was being literal.

I'm more amused by these guys in their 50's/60's that hop out of them from time to time.

My dad's riding mower sounds better (beefier) than these things. :D

A 4-cylinder just cannot sound good. At all. Even the Subaru Boxer with its lumpy idle and stuff...it's better than most, but no.

Now, the sound of Turbo 5 or Boxer 6 (preferably turbo'd, thanks) and I'm on board. Or a smooth German V8. Never been a fan of American stuff. I can't get the image of Dukes of Hazard out of my head with them.

And it can't be loud, buzzy, drone, or anything like that. That's just annoying.

I got a couple of posers in my neighborhood. Annoys me to no end. Sounds like a hoard of angry bees. I get tinkering around with cars. I used to do a lot of it. But when you put fart cans on for show with no go and then purposely rev your car like we're all supposed to be impressed, that's when I lose respect for the offender. How I got my start in cars and such was tinkering with my old 94 Cavalier Z24. I did everything under the sun possible to enhance the performance of the car. Was I trying to make the car something it wasn't? No. But I wanted to learn from various mods. I had Crane 1.6 ratio roller rockers, a upgraded Crane cam, 50 HP dry shot NOS nitrous oxide kit, Eibach Pro Kit springs, Koni sport adjustable rear shocks, Bilstein fron struts, Energy poly bushings, etc, etc. Car was definitely a sleeper. No large fart cans. Just a stainless Borla tip out the back and the car having been lowered.

It's also funny you'll never see these racer wanna be's at any sanctioned racing event. I guess they don't want to put up or shut up in front of real racers.

I agree about the crotch rocket thing. The only 4 cylinder that are music to my ears are the crotch rockets with an nice full exhaust kit. Even my 04 ZX-10R with an Akrapovic slip on sounds better than the rice boys. I have had the pleasure to experience a BMW S1000RR at full song on the race track. It's something else. 13K RPMs down the front straight at VIR doing 150 MPH in 4th/5th gear.

BTW, stickers add 15 HP each.

Sort of off topic, but my uncle used to race dragsters. We'd go EVERY year to the Winternationals in AZ and camp out. I remember being at the startline, and then riding with the "crew" to tow him back to his 18 wheeler after he was done. I remember getting to stand (way back) behind jet engine dragsters and watching them haul flowers.

I met and got autographs from Big Daddy Don Garlits! And Shirley Muldowney. My uncle, then turned my other uncle and my female cousin onto dragster racing.

My first uncle ended up getting in a horrific accident, and the roll cage was the only thing that saved his life. He was in a wheelchair and had steel rods into his toes to rebuild his feet. He gave up racing for a long while, but got back into it racing funny cars, and now, even though he's well into his 60's, he rebuilds older cars and races them. He was even on Pinks All Out a few years ago. He has never watched any footage of his dragster accident.

Despite my makeup obsession, I am still a tomboy at heart, lol.

I think the last time I actively heard one of those was 20 years ago. The only thing(s) that get my attention is a horn, tires squealing/screeching and brake lights.

You seem to have rabbit ears...about a lot of things! :D

i was at my friends the other day and it scared the blank out of me..some guy in his little 4 cyl revved it up good and loud before he pulled out...pathetic

he probably also guns the engine right before he shuts down too..hope the lack of oil fries the engine.

Nothing sound better to me than the sound of the 4 inch straight exhaust on my 6.6L Duramax. Just enough rumble without being annoying....and all the power in the world to back it up.

Oh. I wasn't aware you traded your E for a Cadillac. :mellow::rofl:

I HATE modified exhaust systems. Never heard them referred to as "fart pipes," but that makes TOTAL sense, lol.

One of my friends drives a 2004 G35. Not only did he over pay by an ungodly amount (KBB is $10k, he paid $17k at a "Buy Here, Pay Here" place), it's a beat to crap car, that needed an entirely new engine a month after he bought it. I told him not to buy it, but alas... he's never been good at taking my advice, even when he asks for it.

Anyway, he has put thousands into it to "deck it out," and "make it 'G'", as he says - he is under the impression that all of the aftermarket mods will make it worth more... The biggest thing was the exhaust system. You can hear it, literally, from across town. He gets tickets ALL the time for it but he has a friend who is a cop so he constantly just gets it signed off. Everyone in town HATES his car. It gets people's attention... and then they start glaring, saying how loud it is, and how crappy it sounds.

I REFUSE to ride in his car for the exhaust alone. It's obnoxious, rude, and a nuisance.

I'll take the roar of my BMW's engine over the sound of an exhaust system. It's something that actually matters - not just hot air (literally).

Oh, and no I don't like the noise. They drive me crazy. I prefer DH's Gibson exhaust, although now it's getting a little annoying b/c I'm so old, LOL.
