Just figured I would let others know that Direct Loans removed 4 months of 120day lates and a 90day late. I faxed them a GW letter everyday for 2 weeks. So keep trying eventually it might get to the right person.
Mind sharing the fax number that you used? I have 5 loans through them, one payment gets divided by those 5, yet on my report it shows that I was late on two of them and not the other 3.

That's awesome! I had always heard not to bother GWing for SL's. Nice to know it's not necessarily a lost cause.

Hi Paul,
Wow that is wonderful to hear! A couple of weeks ago, I sent a single fax to the same number with GW letter and attached a copy of my credit report. I haven't heard back, but I have a couple of questions based on your experience:
- Did you send the same letter each time?
- How did you finally receive a response? (i.e. via fax, email, mail?)
- Did you attach 1 or more copies of your credit report each time? (this ends up making it a pretty big fax)
- Did you explicitly point out the late months you wanted changed?
Thanks for you story!

Hi Paul,

I haven't heard back, but I have a couple of questions based on your experience:Sorry for all the questions but I had a glitch where my faithfully repaid loan became about 9 months behind in 2009 (with only a few hundred dollars remaining on balance!) and the late marks are killing my credit score now. Any additional info is therefore greatly appreciated as the general sentiment with regard to fixing federal loan credit issues is doom and gloom!

Yes I sent the same letter every time. I never recieved any answer back from them. I pulled my reports one morning and they no longer had the lates on them. My scores jumped over 100pts that day. I did not send a copy of my credit report or note the months. I asked that all 120day lates and a 90day late to be removed. Hope this helps.

Welp, I figured I would give an update on this for anyone else who is curious. I'm on 3 weeks of daily faxing with no results or response. Not giving up yet - I've been trying different tweaks to the GW letter, fax cover sheet and time of day to fax. I figure it costs me nothing but time to do this.
But Paul, I did get a PM from someone looking for a GW letter to use. If it's not too much trouble or too personal, would you mind posting the letter you used successfully? And if you have other details like who it was attention to, time of day you faxed, etc. that would be useful as well. Trying to apply the scientific method here!
Thanks!

From my understanding it can take up to 60 days for the change to show up on your credit reports. Like I said I never even received anything from them inregards to a response to my letters. As far as the GW letter goes I am not going to share it. It was my personal reasons as to why I was late on my payments. It was not a "cut and paste" letter by any means.
