Well here it is, my first new piece of plastic since having to declare BK. It has been quite a while since I've applied for any credit cards so things look a little bit different than I remembered.

I figure I slid under the radar with the approval. After all, I IIB'd $12k for Barclays just over a year ago. So they approved the app and sent me a card. The card was sticky-taped to a nice letter welcoming me to Barclays. And on the backside of the very same sheet of paper there was a letter telling me I had been denied (bunch of reasons, primarily all of the negative stuff with the BK) and they gave me my TU score.

Is it me, or has the credit world gone crazy?!? "Welcome!! You're denied, but call now to activate your card!"

Needless to say, I'm going with the "activate" option!!! I'm hoping whatever bipolar glitch they're experiencing over there continues to work in my favor. If anyone else wants to take advantage of them while they're disoriented, the iTunes/Apple application strategy seems to be a great way to go. I've received five different emails from Barclays telling me all sorts of exciting things about my new card, I was able to view the account online, and I also made a couple of purchases. Fingers crossed, this may be a very lucky first step for a post-BK fresh start.

First they pulled TU and gave me that score (664). Then they pulled EX and EQ. I'm not sure why they blitzed-out and did so many hard-pulls but since it looks like I might have just barely scraped by with the approval I don't think I'll be calling them any time soon to ask about it.

Maybe you were denied for signature card and were given the platinum card instead

My guess is that you didn't get most favorable terms or not original card as poster suggested above.

Got the Barclays Financing Card, which is what I applied for. It seems to function just like any other Visa. Their automated system prompted me to set a PIN for ATM withdrawals when I activated the card so I guess it does that, too. It is a plain ol' white card with the Barclays logo on the top left corner and a Visa logo in the bottom right corner. I'm sure the terms are less-than-awesome but I always PIF so I'm not too concerned. Whatever is going on, I'm happy to be rebuilding my credit again with an unsecured card so I don't mind if things are a bit squirrely here and there.

I had the same experience accept it was a sears charge card. I got a letter in the mail stating it was denied. In another letter I got the card and congratulations you've been approved. Of couse I activiated the card and everything went thru...My luck I guess.

I had the same thing happened to me with a sears credit card application. I received two mail one with the denial letter and the other with a congratulations you've been approved. I activated the card and went shopping. I think it was a blessing for me...and for you of course....

For those of you who weren't around, and want to see just how wacky Barclay's can be, read the "Juanmi" thread from about 5 years ago. One of the longest threads on CB, it goes for over 340 pages! Long story short Barclay/Juniper had a system glitch one weekend and was giving out multiple cards with 5 figure limits...unreal. I linked it below for those with time to kill...
