I have read that Capital One can be hard to work with on a Good Will Letter. Will you please review my letter and let me know how I may improve it? It is a variation of one I found online with my specifics added to it. Thank You.

Capital One, ATTN: Customer Relations
PO Box 30285
Salt Lake City, UT 84130-0285

RE: Account Number XXXXXXXXXXXX

Dear Customer Relations,

I would like to thank you for allowing me to be a part of the Capital One Family. I will have been a loyal card member for 4 years come next month. I have been very happy with your credit card and your customer service. You were generous enough to provide me with a credit line back in 2008 when I was starting to rebuild my credit.

Unfortunately, in December of 2008, I failed to submit my monthly payment on time. I could try to blame it on my bank and their online bill pay system that I started to use, but ultimately I failed to fulfill my obligation to you and I missed my payment. It was an exceptionally busy and chaotic time in my life, as my family and I had recently moved from South Dakota to Pennsylvania for a new job. I fully respect my obligations to Capital One and have worked diligently to amend my relationship with you and regain your trust. Since that time I haven’t been late on my account. I currently use my card for both personal and business use as I travel.

Recently, I have begun the search for a new car for our family of six and it has come to my attention that the 30 day late with Capital One (from December of 2008) may negatively affect my chances of obtaining financing. As you may know, FICO scores and credit history are being used more and more in the auto lending industry. This is my only late payment on my credit report in the last four and a half years.

I know this will fall off my credit report automatically in December of 2015, which is only a few years away, but in light of my renewed focus and demonstrated commitment to rebuilding trust with your company, I am requesting that you give me a second chance at a positive credit rating by deleting the 30 day late as reported on my three major credit bureau files (Experian, TransUnion, & Equifax). I sincerely hope Capital One believes in their customers and I humbly request your consideration to allow me to pursue a safer vehicle for my four little boys and wife. I appreciate your time and hope for a gesture of goodwill and to continue doing business with Capital One.

Regards

DH did that and got a "we have researched your account and it is reporting accurately" form letter in response. Good Luck. We've sent about 10 different letters to 3 different addresses and get the same response. If something works for you I would love to hear it.

Good luck! Letter sounds good, but CapOne is impossible. I hope you have a different outcome! I tried 10+ times for good will for ONE 30 day late, and they wouldn't budge. Hope you have a different outcome!

Please, pleasem pleasepleasepleasepleasePLEASE do not overload "Richard Fairbank" at Capital One or he will either set up a filter on his Inbox to ignore these type of mail, OR he will simply "deny" them all and NOBODY on this board will benefit! :(

As to me, I pestered them left and right to a PO Box in VA and they eventually (after saying no twice, in tow days) sent me a letter that they would delete my TL from my CRs. (All 4 of them. ;) ) However, I am of the impression that I was just lucky.

I like the letter but Capital One can be jerks. The common sentiment here is that they will "likely" say "no." Please do not let this stop you. It didnt stop me. And I have it off atleast one CR - the whole open, currently reporting TL.. but.. still.. I did it. Sort of amazing how.. and that is why we are here.:aggressive:

Update:

Received a call from Capital One today. They were very nice and felt bad for me but wouldn't budge on the 30 day late. :( Now on to phase 2. :D Should I send the same letter to the Utah or Virginia location? Or should I tweak the letter first? How much time should I give between goodwill requests?

Thanks again for your help.

Cap1 didn't work with me either. I actually got a call from their executive office, just to let me know that they will not help me. The lady was nice enough, but that no stung. The account is paid and closed since 2009. Her name was Al icia 8009551455.

will try again after the holiday
