I'm thinking of opening a savings account with American Express.

Are they checking Early Warning System?
Are they running a credit check?
Do you need good credit to open an account with them?

Thanks in advance.

I have an Amex savings account, to the best of my knowledge they pulled a soft on Experian and pulled ChexSystems as well.

EDIT: Pretty sure they don't use EWS and my credit wasn't great when I opened it ( 620 FAKO I believe )

Amex has a new checking account service they offer called Blue Bird where you can send a pic of the check for deposit and there are no fees involved except when you initially set up and thats $5. I signed up for the service, my biggest complaint is the use of the Amex card is not many people accept Amex.

I've read some poor reviews of Bluebird. Mainly if you have a problem it's almost impossible to talk to someone. Hours long phone wait times. I opened an account just for the heck it, not that I need it. I just have a small balance. It's not a checking account because you can't write checks, but that may be coming. It does have bill pay and a debit card. It may be good for people locked out from regular bank accounts. For anyone else, I wouldn't rely on it.

I have heard both negative things about this card and positive things as well
