Seriously? If I had a case, I would sue their azzes off. I cannot tell you how many times my kid was ready to pee her pants when I picked her up from school. Her teacher would not let her go to the bathroom, would make her sit through class. The thing is, if she had to ride the bus, she wouldn't have made it home without wetting herself.

Our schools here are VERY insensitive to children's personal needs. When these kids are young like this, they don't get a 3 minute break between classes. They are at the mercy of their teachers the entire day. :glare:

I've told my kids countless times, that if they really need to go and the teacher refuses to give them permission, they are to go to the restroom and then go straight to the office and have them call me. I'll handle it from there. I've actually had this happen once with my youngest. I handled it.

I turned out just fine... :D these kids need to stop being raised in a cotton wool world..

That's what I've told my kids.

Although way back in my day at the age of 5 it would be more like what you said teased some then it would be dropped.

This day and age, kids are mean.

I had a teacher in K who wouldn't let me go either. Apparently, I went over to the corner, pulled my pants down and did it anyway. I showed her who was boss. kidding. (on the showing her who was boss)

But really? Making them sit in the diarrhea for as long as this teacher did was wrong.

I bet what I did wouldn't be tolerated nowadays. The police may be called and my child would get a ticket for indecent exposure or something.

Agree...teacher was wrong in this case...after my "poopey pants" incident, I went from being a shy, retiring child to one who would give you a smackdown if you so much as mentioned it.....

*groans* not another crazy-@$$ teacher.... what's wrong with the school system today?!

I've not read the article, but like someone said earlier each kid is different. What if this kid had a bad day, sensitive system or a bad food reaction? And being a very young kid, they still haven't the knack to hold their poo or pee YET. This teacher needs to be FIRED. And why aren't there an assistant in the class to make sure the kids are really needing to go the bathroom?

“Perhaps an error of judgment was made when examining what truly happened, but an appropriate state agency is conducting an investigation, whose findings based on facts will be forthcoming,” Walker said in the statement.

Walker also asked to “refrain from a rush to judgment” about the teacher.

“A veteran teacher with a twenty-three year spotless record , as well as a school district that is committed to serving children, is being attacked, based at least in part, on untruths.”

A rush to judgement? After 23 years in the profession she should KNOW better. There is not "rush to judgement" here. Trick made the wrong decision and a 6 yr old is now emotionally scarred for the rest of her life. As far as "school district that is committed to serving children" - you lost that argument when NO ONE at that school helped the child clean up. Hateful, evil and cruel.

The parents do not plan on filing charges.

Perhaps Momma is just bidding her time, til she stabs someone in the face with a bit of rusty rebar all Russian style. :dntknw:

The one kid and his father are saying it wasn't scary or a big deal. I'll wait to form an opinion on that one just yet. But forcing a child to shat herself and then sit in it for 35+ minutes? Nah. Somone would be getting burned at the stake.

This.

SO humiliating to a child and then to give her a trash bag to wrap around her waist... UGH.

I hate to see any child in a position like this. At that age, it's very difficult to control a bladder and/or BM, especially if it's diarrhea. In my twelve years as an elementary school nurse, I've had LOTS of kids come to the clinic with urinary or BM accidents. Each year, I send letters home to the parents of every kindergarten and first-grade student, encouraging them to send an extra set of clothes to school for their child to keep in their locker in case of an accident such as this. Sadly, some parents think that won't happen to their children and therefore do not send in clothes. For those children, I have in the past used my own money to purchase underwear, shorts, sweat pants and socks. After several years of having things not returned to me, I stopped spending my own money. It can't be that difficult to throw an extra set of clothing in a bag and send it to school with a child. Not only does it save embarrassment for a child, it prevents parents from having to leave work to bring clothes to school. Our kindergarten and first-grade classrooms each have their own bathrooms ... one for the boys and one for the girls and they're allowed to go whenever they need. That still does not stop accidents. Sometimes it's something so simple as not being able to unsnap or unzip fast enough. Sometimes it's because they're in the middle of something fun (recess, centers, etc.) and they don't want to take the time to go. Sometimes it's just because they're young and the muscles that control the bladder aren't as strong. We have a couple of kids who have BM accidents on a regular occasion and will sit in it and not say a word and aren't the least bit embarrassed by it. It's usually when another child smells something or the teacher smells something that they'll actually make their way to the clinic. I agree that any child who says they have to go to the restroom should be allowed to do so, but I will tell you that many children use that as an avoidance method. If the mother in the story had sent in extra clothes (as most schools request), her daughter would have spent 20 less minutes sitting in diarrhea. The blame here goes to more than the teacher. It's heart-breaking for the child!

My daughter is in first grade and I can tell you an extra set of clothes has NEVER been requested of me. :dntknw:
