Anyone deal with these cats?
When you don't have any idea of who they are or who they are collecting for what is the first letter sent out?
Ugh.... my credit report is starting to look pretty and now this....

This just showed up on my credit report.... they are out of PA, showing account closed and that I owe $100. I have no idea who they are. Nothing sent to my home or phone calls.....

1-2 punch. Send a DV letter to them CMRRR, then dispute with the CRAs - are they showing on just one or all 3?

And for the purposes of FDCPA §1692g(a), your "initial communication" was the date you first noticed the account on your reports.

They are just showing on Experian. Hopefully that will be the only one... But usually they end up showing on all reports, right?

Not necessarily. My EX report shows a collection or two that isn't reporting anywhere else.

When I dispute with the cra what would be my reasoning? I'm sorry, everything else I've ever had on my report I know the all the info.... The who what when where and why.
I feel like such a newbie right now. This showing up on my report has just made me loopy.

Torres is contracted for UGI. Did you have an old gas bill?
Yes. That turned out to be what it was. When I moved from MO to back home, I didn't realize I had an outstanding balance.
I'm still trying to figure out SOL for utilities, and what options I have. I don't know if this CA goes for PFD because it isn't that much and I could do that.

FWIW they back down QUICK. So I'd guess they'd probably just PFD to get your money
Well, I'd rather make them go away using a letter or two, but I don't know the SOL for utilities... some say three others four years, (using UCC). I can't remember, was your item still in SOL when you dealt with them?

They showed up on my report a few weeks ago for an old MO electric bill. I paid the electric bill directly to ameren and made a fuss with the CSR and it was gone two days later.
That is exactly what mine is! Now when you said you made a fuss with the CSR, you mean with ameren? What did you say if you don't mind me asking. What reports were they on? I have them on Experian and TU.
Oh man, I hope I can take care of it like you did.

It will eventually show up on EQ...Mine was < $200 and I figured it wasn't worth it to have Amex do a FR or any of my other cards to CLD or close accounts. I called and spoke with a CSR at Ameren who gave me the old account number and said I could pay it at Schnucks or similar and I asked if they would notify Torres and "have it deleted" the low level rep said yes. I went and paid it and then called back the next day with the confirmation number and had to escalate it a couple of times as they were now telling me that they don't do that. I got a little cantankerous with the head collections lady and said "I know for a fact if you tell Torres to delete the account that they will. You're rep said it would be deleted so that's what I want to happen." She seemed hesitant and said she would email them but it probably wasn't going to happen. This was a friday, on monday they were gone from all three.
I'd say pay Ameren directly if its legit and only $100. Then hound them until they do what you want. I did not talk to Torres other than to ask them who they were.
As always your mileage may vary...
