Thanks lilyflower for the info.I just joined because of the good rates on Think Big Checking. I joined thru Tru Direction. I'm sure they pull either chexystem to open the accounts.

I don't have any problems with Chex personally - (I've managed to have the same checking account since 2004 with no issues) so I can't speak to what they check or what to do if you have bad info in Chex but as long as you come up as you and can verify some info you can open that awesome checking account. I have my savings split between there and ING at the moment - I'm already over $1K on the ThinkBig so normal paycheck savings deposits are going back into my orange savings but I do throw an extra $20 or so into the account to keep it active and I have used my debit card like twice when I had no cash on me at work because there's an ATM in my building.

I just transferred portion of my Discover Savings to fund the account. It will get me 4% for the first 1K. It's too bad they don't let to put more than $1K to earn 4%.

Thanks again for let me know.

No, last Experian inquiry is dated 7/2010.

I'm Chex inquiry-free for the last 5 months.

Last inquiry was CP Federal. It was last October. I'm not interested to apply for any credit card yet. I'm waiting for pre-approval from Andrews FCU.

I'm waiting on new cards until fall. I have a lot of new credit right now - although if I get some ELF magic I might break my promise to wait until October.

Yes, it's also on my short list too. Andrews will charge $2.00 monthly by sending out the statement in June. I just switched to e-statement.

Anyone know the limit on interest earned in a savings/checking before getting a 1099-INT? 4% on 1k will be 40 bucks a year, and I think IRS expects a 1099-INT for anything over $25 / yr?

For some reason I thought it was $11/yr but yeah, the ELFCU interest will probably be enough to generate one. Although I can't see how much of an effect that's going to have for anyone on taxes.

Does that mean if we use amazon & have an account with them we can use them to join?

i don't think so, because once you click on the entity, it asks how you're associated. the only "member" affiliation is a TruDirection (sounds like a group on Glee!) member. i joined TD ($5) just to be safe.

1099's are usually generated for $10 or more, but the individual institution can issue one for less.

Whether or not a 1099 is issued, the taxpayer is expected to declare that income, however small.

I don't know. Has anyone tried that? I know it's $5 for a Tru Direction membership and that qualifies you. I'd like to say that I might've had to supply my work email when applying as employee of one of the companies listed and had to give some details but I can't remember what.

I paid $5 Tru Direction to join. You will be re-direct to ELF CU page to join after paying Tru Direction membership fee. I didn't see any soft/Hard pull from EXP.

I didn't have to go that route - what's the other CU they offered? If it's something good I don't have I might join myself.
