Interest Checking With Random Credit Unions

I have been poking around a bit lately and found the latest high rate checking accounts, 4% at Consumers CU (IL) and 3% at Lake Michigan CU, and there are some others.

 

My question is, how can they keep up these sorts of offers or are they just short-time leaders?

 

I don't want to hassle with moving my money and then have the rate disappear. I have found it is a bit of a chore to do a new CU acct. since moving my HSA recently. I think there are some new ID requirements.

Consumers CU says that rate is around until June 2012, may go down eventually. LMCU was 4% last year

Eli Lilly FCU has an account they call the "Think Big" checking which is 4% interest on the first $1k and then 0.25% on whatever balance above $1K. I haven't seen anything about it expiring. They also have personal e-mail service, I just joined this year but I've been very happy with them so far.
