After starting to get into CUs figured I would do one more. Logic says I should do DCU for the free FICO but I'm considering congressional vs Senate CU anyone got any experience/recs between these two.

Do DCU for AND either one of the others, preferrably CFCU IMO.

Ended up getting DCU. Goes well along with Lake Michigan CU, Patelco, Penfed, Alliant.

Will probably have to wait on CFCU

Was there a HP to join Lake Michigan CU and do you have a CC with them?

I'm with Senate. Pretty happy, except they just announced a slew of new fees... like $35 a year to have an IRA savings account. I just opened mine in January and already I've decided to transfer it to ING.

Sure is! But I don't understand why Patelco? Are they still pulling strictly EX?

IIRC Patelco has been among the favs here. Haven't seen much about them of late and am not a fan personally, AFAIK they are EX pullers
and may favor in state app/ sometimes fear
those of us who embrace diversity with aplomb Posted Image

Nonetheless, have come across a number of favorable posts
over the years, so figure they may be a good choice
for those who take the time to get to know them better than I did.

No I saw an old thread which said soft for accounts, although when you sign up initially it asks you to consent to a credit check, I didn't go through with it as I have too many INQs and I wanted to get the DCU CC so I could get the free EQ scores.

Lake Michigan CU did do a hard pull from TU to open a checking account, I didn't get a credit card from them

For the 5% New Member CD, unfortunately you can only do $1000 but its the best rate to be found. They have been a little difficult to deal with though. I mailed my deposit, then a few days later they said they wanted my drivers license to confirm membership. I immediately sent my drivers license. Check didn't clear and then the other day it came back to me in the mail, I noticed too that online my CD account didn't register any more. They said they never received my check, I explained that it was returned to me and they said as a courtesy they would let me resend the check. PendFed, LMCU have been great so far though, especially Penfed, very nice on the phone

I can't take credit for it, all the CUs I found were from CB posts, before following this forum I would never have thought about doing CUs.

Im also prepping with the old adage that when you need credit it's not the best time to look for credit. My car is on its last limbs so a low interest car loan is probably in my future.

Didn't do my homework. Got denied eligibility by CFCU, thought I could get it via West Virginia Society...but you can only get it through that if you live in the DC area. Anyone know any other ways?

I just opened accounts with Patelco today at a branch office. My first CU!! My brother has been with them for YEARS and has been very happy with them. It was fairly painless and I was happy that they pull only 1 CBR (which is usable for 90 days for other loan products) if you wish to get a CC or loans through them. I was interested in moving my auto loan to them as their interest rate is pretty low (1.99%). Instantly approved for that and also got a Plat VISA for $10k. They do have a program that if you keep $3k in deposit accounts and have a loan product with them you get additional services at no extra charge (Notary, Cashier's Checks, etc.) Their website was easy to navigate through as well. Not a bad CU to deal with. :yahoo:

The Senate checks and debit card are gorgeous. The credit card... notsomuch. But nice 9.25% rate, 10.25% for rewards. Debit has rewards, too.

Lucky for me I live in the DC area.... ho ho... perhaps another CU for me to add to my roster. :)

EDIT: I applied for a savings and checking account. Is it normal when you hit submit application button it just takes you back to their main website with no information? I was also blown away by the security questions... I really would love to know where they get their information. They asked me "of the following people, who do you know?" and the answer was my ex-husband. They asked me "what state did you reside in in 1982-1983... I was born in 1978. So, these questions freaked me out a little bit. How on earth would they know where I lived when I was 5 years old?
