This is a brief synopsis of what happened when I politely asked from a repossession notation to be removed from my credit report after emailing Americredit. Just so the people reading this knows that Americredit was bought out by GM Financial and as of Feb 2012, there's no more Americredit.

While deployed back in 2007 I had my automobile repo'd and I redeemed the loan within two days bringing everything current. Fast forword to a few days ago. I emailed a contact at Americredit (now GM Financial) with a letter asking to remove the repossession notation on my credit report because I haven't missed a payment since the repossession and the reason for the missed payments was that I was deployed. I included a copy of orders showing dates of deployment and subsequent release from active duty. I received a reply saying that it was forwarded and I will hear back.

Today I get a call saying that the repo remark was removed and all lates during that period. Also, they adjusted the interest rate to 6% and retroactively applied the payments I have been making and it dropped my payoff by $5000. Now I am ever closer to the VA loan I'm so desperately wanting.

Folks, if you have any credit problems during past deployments mail off letters with orders and most companies and corporations will honor the SCRA.
