I have just paid off the balances owed to USAA and am now just discovering via various boards that I should have negotiated before paying them (duh) to have any negative credit reporting removed.

In any event, my account has always been in good standing however in the past year I was unable to pay my bills and as a result had 2 charge offs. I had no idea how much of an impact these 2 charge offs would have till I started looking for insurance/bonding for a new small business I am attempting to start this year. I discovered that my credit score had PLUMMETED.

I'm wondering if anyone has had good success having them removed and how?

Just call USAA? (Who/What dept?)

Call the Collectors?

or C) Don't bother asking politely, just try all the various "methods" suggested on this board

Thanks in advance

Can anyone tell me if it's at least "worth a shot", or if its a bad idea to get on their radar at all?

I'm a bit gunshy as I already botched my ideal time to negotiate....so any thoughts would be appreciated

Did you ever have any luck with USAA removing the CO's?

I had both a CC and LOC that are reporting as CO's from 2008, but I was wondering how to proceed as well.

I'm in same boat. I was mislead, due to ignorance of credit issues, by the collection agency that assumed my account. Three years later I'm still paying the price for having a CO on my credit report. I'd love to come clean with USAA for my own clear conscious mad to gain my credit back. I'm doing as much research as possible before attempting a settlement, etc.

It would be great hearing from anyone who's battled through this situation, with either type results.

Glad to find is forum

I wish my experiences were of use to you, but I think they're probably not of much help.

Are you still on active duty? Were you a member long before running into issues?

My experience is with getting calls from them regarding members of my unit who were in default. With me they were always very nice, but those in my unit who were the subject of the calls reported they were SOBs. They were very focused, though, on getting their money. On at least one or two occasions they were forgiving if the individual had a good attitude AND paid up. This was before charge off. After it went to the CA I am unaware.

Does USAA sell the debt to the CA or just place it with them?
