It's definitely the shoes. :( I tried jogging between buildings yesterday, and I was getting the same kind of twang as I did on the treadmill. Bummer.

I will join this group. My doctor says I need to lose weight. Between stress, medication, not eating well and not exercising, I have gained 70 pounds. So I joined my fitness pal and I am trying to keep track of calories on there. Anyone else a member of that site?

Has anyone in here tried the Special K protein shakes? If not, they are pretty good and have a lot of nutrients in them. I drink one per day to supplement my diet. Theres chocolate, vanilla and strawberry flavors. I haven't tried the chocolate because I am not a fan of chocolate, but the other two taste good.

I'll bite. DH and I are trying to get back in shape after gaining back weight we'd lost a couple of years ago before a trip abroad. I'm so mad at myself but that will get me nowhere so we're back at it. We joined a fabulous program through the Y called the "Diabetes Prevention Program". It is for people who have risk factors for diabetes (family history, weight, etc.). They Y received a grant for this program so, for 36 weeks, DH and I have a full-access (including any classes) membership along with a trainer and nutritionist ... all for free! I felt so good when I was in shape and I've been feeling crappy with this extra weight. I've been unable to exercise for a while because of knee issues, but I had some surgery in January and I'm ready to get back on the bike and the elliptical trainer. I plan to swim laps, but really need to work on stroke technique (it's ugly!) For those of you in Tennessee, check out your local Y to see if they're offering the program ... it's through a state grant.

First fitness goal of 2012 is COMPLETE!! :clapping: :clapping:

Since I started running in 2010, my goal was to run a sub 30-minute 5K.

I ran my first 5K in June, 2010. Total time was 34:33 (a respectable 11:07 pace).

I just ran a 5K on Saturday. Total time was 29:10 (9:24 pace)

If I keep this up I may actually be able to place in one of these damn races by 2015.

I have a lot I would like to accomplish this year.
1. Cleaning up my credit and lowering debt ratio
2. Starting school (Feb.2012)
3. Being more active and losing atleast 50lbs by the end of the year.
4. I would like to run (without feeling like my lungs are going to collapse)
5. Really look into homebuying once credit is clean

Every thing on my list will happen over time, but I just have to remember that anything worth having is worth waiting for and working towards.

I bought a GPS watch for $60 from ebay. I've used it in races and it's accurate to within maybe 2% of actual mileage.

You guys are all doing so well :-).

Do any of you use the minimalist shoes? I'm looking for a shoe I can use for Crossfit and for walking around England in. I really only want to bring maybe 1 or 2 pair of shoes with me there.

Anyone?
