What typically is bad enough to cause a problem with getting a checking acct?

We closed an acct at a local bank that had something come in afterwards. If we got mail from them we never looked at it, probably thought is was some offer to come back. Now we have a $37 collection account with a CA. I would like to get it off both my credit reports and Chexsystems. Problem is it is being reported to EQ and TU by the CA. I didn't even know about Chexsystems until yesterday so I ordered my report today. I need to see what is there, but I assume it will be reported. Is that one thing enough to get denied at places for checking? I have been working on EZ, EQ and TU for 6 weeks. Now this?? UGH.

I do have good income and would be direct depositing nearly $6K a month. The job is secure and I have been there a while. How much does that matter?

If you attempt to open an account and are on Chexsystems for anything depending on bank will deny you so do not waste the effort. You can try to go to the bank and explain the situation and try to get them to remove you, 50/50 shot. Best bet is to open an account that does not run Chexs or for that matter EWS (may want to check that report too, since banks can report it there as well)

Look into a credit union in your area, some will just run a credit report for score/verification. What is your zip code, MCA should be able to help ya find something.

Well I am going to wait to see what is on there, I requested my report last week.

Problem is my local CU pulls CS and TU. My credit is atrocious although I have been working on it :aggressive:. I think that's going to make it tough to get in with any CU right now. I have a couple open judgments I am working on.

Zip is 150xx, so I am in PA. I'd like to get PSECU, but I have a long way to go for that.

Depending on where you live, just look for a bank that uses only chexsystems if you are not reported and make sure they do not run your credit report
