So Chexsystems was on my a$$. I couldn't get a checking account at my local Credit Union, couldn't leave my current bank which I hate (Chase).
According to TCF Bank I owed them $65.77. I REFUSED to pay, because they were scamming me over 2 NSF fees on an account I closed several days before. They reopened the account, NSF'd me twice, then reclosed the account and sent me a bill. I was sick. I didn't owe them the money and wasn't going to pay. Welp, when I found out I was in Chexsystems I wish I had paid.
Anywho - I follow the instructions and 2 and a half months later... Boom. I'm outta Chexsystems. Ever though the verified the debt... twice... I followed the instructions to the T and caught TCF in a hole they dug for themselves. By TCF not notifying Chex that I disputed the debt with the within 30 days they opened themselves up to a lawsuit.
I didn't have to sue. They sent me a letter apologizing for the mix up and as a "courtesy" to "settle" the issue TCF cleared the $65 debt owed and had my name removed from Chexsystems.
Thanks to all in this subsection of the forum... may I never have to return to Chex Hell.
