Credit Freeze is used to protect you against identity theft. If you currently have credit, it will not affect you in building your credit. But, if you freeze your reports, no one will be able to pull your credit to establish NEW credit, until you lift the freeze, or specify a specific lender to be able to see your reports for a limited amount of time. Do a little research on freezing your credit reports, as there is a lot of good information out there. Congrats on going into the Military. I leave for basic in a week. What branch did you choose?I recently started to build credit seeing that i had none before.. not bad or good just no credit. I will in a few months time be going away to boot camp and i will be away for a while.I share an apartment and i was thinking about getting a credit freeze done in case any offers to sign up for a credit card come around for me when im away. My flatmate has equal access to the mailbox and may or may not know my ssn and just generally to avoid any issues down the road. My question is does putting a credit freeze affect my efforts to build credit in any way? I plan to thaw it out when i get back ..and also is this the best way to avoid identity theft? Any help /ideas are welcome ....
