I spoke with a CSR at Experian regarding deleting my addresses. He deleted the ones that were inaccurate but explained that valid previous old addresses stay on. Should I continue to try to have them removed via snail mail? I am anxious to send out the pre HIPAA letter...

OP, how did he/she know which ones were which (inaccurate and accurate old ones?)

And isnt HIPAA/Pre-HIPAA for Medical? Were these Medical addresses?

Also, what number did you call, and how did you get to a CSR..

It is my understanding that you are supposed to opt-out and remove all old and wrong addresses from your credit reports before sending the initial letter to the CRAs regarding a medical collections account as per Why Chat's program.

I called Experian at 1.800.493.1058 and spoke to a gentleman who removed addresses that I said were wrong. In the midst of the conversation I said that two of the addresses were former ones. He told me that those stay on.

I have NEVER suggested doing anything by phone/fax/ or internet with any CRA.

It is too late now, but for other posters, the way to delete old OR inaccurate addresses is to do it by MAIL.

Make sure first that any GOOD old closed accounts are notified of your current correct address, ( and of course all your current accounts)

You then send a LETTER to the CRA stating that your correct address is xxx and as proof you are enclosing a COPY of your drivers license, a COPY of your SS card and an ORIGINAL recent utility bill. Request that all old addresses be deleted as they are not yours and you are concerned about identity theft.

Obviously this poster negated the whole purpose of the deletion of his old addresses by stating that they were in fact former addresses.

Thank you for your reply, Why Chat. I didn't write that you said to call a CSR nor did I intend to imply that you said to call. If I did, I humbly apologize for this error. I simply stated that my understanding is that one is supposed to clear out old addresses in an effort to answer a question put to me. I did call because I needed to speak to a person there about another far more pressing issue on my report and it led into the address discussion. I will attempt to proceed with your program, hopefully with less blatant ignorance and sheer stupidity on my part as I have clearly displayed so far.. Nor will I bother anyone with my silly postings anymore. Thanks again.

I do not consider your posting as "silly" ALL missteps that are reported AND CORRECTED are of benefit to others viewing this forum.

I am sometimes overly harsh in my responses, that is because I am old and irascible by nature.

Thank you, I'm sorry I was so sensitive. I'm actually sitting here at the computer n tears right now, with my husband thinking I've lost my mind but this whole mess is just so upsetting and I'm so lost. I guess I'll just send this letter anyway:

I am writing to request that you delete the following addresses from my credit report as I have not lived there for quite some time. Since many other people have been using these addresses in the years since I was there, I am concerned that the reporting of these incorrect addresses on my current report may create an opportunity for identity theft.

I guess it can't hurt.

Are you saying I sent out letters to my old creditors where I have good closed accounts just stating I wanted to update my address with you? Will they really do it? Does that also apply to updating your name if it has changed?

Yes, of course, unless you want to lose your good old closed tradelines.

Don't feel too bad. Experian is very difficult when it comes to removing old addresses. In my experience, even by mail, they have flat out refused to remove anything that was attached to an item reported by a creditor.

What if you have both good closed tradelines (mortgage) and bad tradeline (line of credit) through the same bank? Do you update with them when the line of credit is still in the SOL for being sued in order not to lose the good tradeline?

You should NEVER dispute a NON MEDICAL account that is within the SOL for being sued, especially from a bank. This forum is for MEDICAL accounts where the criteria for being sued are completely different.

I'm sorry, I did a search for deleting old addresses and this one came up. I didn't check to see what heading it was under. And I wasn't suggesting I was going to dispute it, but update my address with them when I'm deleting old ones. I wanted to know if you update an address with ANYONE where you have both good old tradelines and bad but the bad is still within the SOL? I guess I'm not wanting to be immediately served after updating my address to save the good tradeline, but I also don't want to lose the good tradeline either. I just wanted to know do I update my address with them or not?:dntknw:
