Tax ID number instead of SIN?

Does anyone know if you can use the Canadian Tax ID number (instead of SIN number) when applying for Canadian credit?
In the US the TIN numbers are flagged since the format is different and obvious. Thanks for any info!

No. The Tax ID is coded differently.
