Lots of folks taking pay cuts, unpaid furloughs or losing their jobs entirely. I imagine professors are no different. Esp. in state funded schools, states are dealing with enormous budget deficits.

Maybe if they cut the $1M + salaries of their varsity coaching staffs, we could afford to throw a few more $ at the faculty.

Well, that's fine considering that an education isn't doing what it is sold to do anymore anyway. A PhD in biotech? So what? Budgets have been cut and we could care less whether or not you helped discover a vaccine for AIDS....see ya' 'round! I'll put int a good word for you over at the community college. Maybe you'll get lucky and land that job that only had 300 applicants.

 

Wanna be a nurse? Good enough. We'll take your money so that you can have a fair chance among those 3000 applicants. What? You keep "hearing" that nurses are in high demand? Sure thing babe. You betcha.

 

When the investment went to the third world, so did the jobs...and the taxes...and everything else. This situation is incommensurable. Personally, I am looking forward to the fire works. They've been about 40 years or so in the making.

I AM TAKING A PAY CUT ~5% EVEN THOUGH I BRING IN MORE $$ THAN MY SALARY AND BENEFITS COST.

 

BUT I STILL HAVE A JOB I LOVE WHERE I GET PAID TO READ, WRITE, RESEARCH, AND TALK ABOUT WHAT I LOVE.

 

I FEEL SORRY FOR MY STUDENTS. TUITION IS GOING UP DRAMATICALLY. SO TOO ARE CLASS SIZES.
