I went ahead today and bought my score from TR and it said score 739 but i have a hard time believing that because at the begining of Feb. my Identity guard said it was 626 so whats going on here. I am confused.

Did you buy that score from myfico.com? If not, it is a fako score. It isn't what most lenders use to determine whether or not you are credit worthy. If you decide to get a score from myfico.com, look around here for a discount. IIRC, it is 30% off.

If you got it from TU, I believe they use the VantageScore. It is not similar to a FICO score and starts higher and ends higher(501-990). That is probably the reason your score appears to be higher.

Please, please, please, unless you are in the market for a “HUGH†Purchase I would not be concerned about a credit score. Although credit scores are important you should be more concerned as to what exactly is in your credit report.

FICO provides numerous credit scores to Lenders and the scores you receive are not the same score that Lenders use.

Save you money.

What is a "HUGH" purchase???

AS FAR AS SCORES GO...

They can go UP or DOWN for any reason or no reason

Scores that YOU can get won't be what THEY pull (most of the time)

There are dozens of different F.I.C.O. SCORES

I disagree. I think it's helpful to have the true FICO scores at the beginning of the repair process so you have a benchmark of your progress. It can be a huge confidence builder to see the score go up, and it's also important in the building process so you have an idea of what lenders might approve you. It's also good to have an idea of what your actual score is when listing approvals or declines on the credit pulls database, since any other scores that people list there is useless. Additionally, as you go through the process, knowing your FICO scores and observing the fluctuations tends to give you a better idea of what actually goes into the process of determing scores.

And to clarify - Vantage is EX's proprietary FAKO that they hawk - Kohl's uses it, but that's about it, I think.

And if you got your TU "score" from TU directly anywhere but at transunioncs as Chad said, it's also a FAKO.

To be sure you get your real FICOs, if you choose to do so, go to myfico, and please use the link in Breeze's signature, since it helps to support CB.

(There's also a 30% discount code right now - check the stickied thread at the top.)

good luck!

I was just assuming that the scores were obtained through www.transunion.com At that website the VantageScore is used for all 3 credit reports. This is where it takes you for if you click the info link for the credit scores. java script:popWin("http://www.truecredit.com/popup/threeScoreSamplePopUp.jsp?popup=true&cb=TransUnion",%20"test",%20645,%20310)
