And I provided it to them. The clerk looked at my picture on my DL to compare, and then compared my signature on the back of my Visa card to the signature on her receipt.

What are you paying for at the DMV other than a license renewal and they would have your llicense before you do

(ASSUMING THEY ALSO TOOK YOUR PICTURE AND ARE CREATING A NEW LICENSE TO WALK OUT THE DOOR WITH)

DMV here is strange. If you are dealing with your license or ID cards they only take cash or checks. If it is dealing with titling or registration they take cash, check, or cards (with an added 3% "convenience" fee). I use checks when there is a fee to use a card.

Why would they even ask for ID, when really they can pull it up on the computer and match it to your face???

Do they take VISA? Or does the state have a law about state agencies and credit card fees?

If yes and no respectively, you should report them to VISA.

DMV don't take credit cards.

aside from the fact there was no reason for you to bump an antique thread, I also need to point out that SOME States DO accept plastic at the licensing offices.

Sometimes it makes sense to pay the extra fee to me.

I paid an extra 3% online to renew my registration for the year, took it up like another $1.80.

So to me the choice was either paying the extra $1.80 and getting my sticker in the mail, or personally going down to the DMV and waiting in line for an hour and a half to save the $1.80 to get same sticker.
