My local Post Office closes at 4:30 PM. I went at about 4:00 PM to buy a book of stamps (we don't have a self-serve kiosk or anything; small town) and the clerk (postmaster, actually) asked if I would pay in cash. I said no and that I would be using my card. He said they don't accept cards after 4 PM. ... I left without my stamps :(

Can they do this per the Visa agreement? Not accept cards after x hours because they're too lazy to turn the machine back on and then batch it out again?

These postal workers are getting lazier by the year. They want to make absolutely sure that when that clock strikes 5 they are out the door to their car.

Had a box to mail yesterday across state. The post office is closer so stopped there first. Of course the line is wrapped out the door and around the lobby. Inside are 2 clerks ready to yank out their own hair.

Went to Fedex and sent out ground for $11 (pretty large box and 12 lbs.) and waited on one woman in front of me trying to buy a calendar.

From now on all packages will be sent Fedex.

Gov't workers can do pretty much as they please. Go visit a social security office.

WALMART HAS STAMPS

MANY MAJOR GROCERY STORES ALSO HAVE THEM

Small town, nearest Wal-Mart is 24 miles one-way, nearest "major" grocery is 17 miles one-way...

I don't like the guy anyway.

In our town, there is no mail delivery to your home. You MUST have a P.O. Box.

We all know how many online applications (especially credit cards) do not like P.O. Box addresses.

So most of my mail comes with both the physical address and box address on it (same ZIP code for both addresses, everything...)

This guy was RETURNING mail that was properly addressed.

I missed three months of bank statements, an AT&T bill, and several credit card denial letters (ha!) because of this.

I know he was returning my stuff because the branch manager of my local Chase called and asked me if I had moved because my mail was noted as being returned... and Macy's told me that my denial letter had been returned... etc...

...so I went up there and raised a stink and I haven't missed mail since then :(

If you MUST have a PO Box, it must be free, right?

Mine isn't because I don't live "in town."

There is a form that you can fill out to get a fee waiver but we've always been denied for not living in the town limits...

There is mail delivery literally a half-mile away from my house, but of course, I can't get it...

So you are not offered free home delivery and are forced to pay to get your mail?

That doesn't seem legal.

It's this or a "rural route" address or some crap.

I don't care... I would have a box even if I could get home delivery.
