I called american family insurance today and they told me I had a auto insurance credit score of 35 on a scale of 0-60 with 0 being the best. What a bunch of BS! With 2 speeding tickets in the last 3 years they quoted me $219 a month for an 07 bmw 328xi ..... i'm stunned. I need to shop around and now I feel like I have to study up on car insurance / credit hits etc for like hours... ahhhhhhh !!! I hate my OCD!!

Auto Insurance pulls are always soft. I recommend Geico. I've been with them for 5 years and shop every 6 months. They are consistantly the cheapest. They have also never given me a hassle when it was time to pay a claim ( had 2)

EDIT:

ALso, if you do a quote with progressive, they will give you your insurance score along with a few reasons why its high/low at the end. just scroll down to the bottom and look for the tiny little link near the "discounts" section.

Try Costco insurance by Amerirprise. Even if you're not a Costco member you can still get a quote, then you can decide whether or not the savings is worth the $50 AF. In my case they cut my rate on my BMW by almost 40% off my State Farm rate, which was already the lowest among others for me.

Just google Costco insurance for a link.

INSURANCE IS NOT A CREDIT PRODUCT NO MATTER HOW YOU SPIN IT

I don't want them looking

then pay the default rate if your state hasnt banned the use of credit reports when underwriting insurance.

I'm pleased with New Jersey Manufactures insurance. Granted they aren't open to just anyone but I'm paying $119 a month for 10 months. Each bill has the $3.00 fee for the monthly payment program. So I'm looking at $1160 a year for Auto Insurance. Also they are like a credit union in the aspect that they don't have stockholders only policyholders and they pay dividends to the policy holders. Normally you get one at renewal time but they just issued a special dividend and I have a check from them for $87.08

ADVERSE ACTION: "EXCESSIVE AVAILABLE CREDIT LIMITS"

Wouldn't have done that CRAP had they ignored credit

How many accidents and claims do you know of that are caused by "EXCESSIVE AVAILABLE CREDIT LIMITS"

*$(#%(*&^!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jeez! Almost $20K a year? Yeah, I think I'd leave it in dad's name, too. :swoon:

I just pulled my Progressive rate on a 5 year old minivan: $68 a month if I pay 6 months at a time. Not bad. (It's paid off, so I've just been carrying liability. Risky, I know.)

Funny thing, my report said I have a "better insurance score than 24% of consumers who have quoted with us." Whoop de doo. Illustrates how important credit rating is with insurance companies, considering I have ZERO tickets or violations of any kind, and in 30+ years of driving, have never filed any sort of auto insurance claim. I'll be curious to see what sort of quotes I get once my credit's cleaned up a bit.

I'll try State Farm for a quote, too. I've always had my full coverage through SF and my homeowner's insurance is with them. That'll lower it a little more, right?

I had horrible experience with State Farm. They played around on an uninsured motorist claim and I had to get an attorney to get them to finally pay. Then My attorney filed a bad faith lawsuit against them and they settled that with us very quickly for 5 times the orgianl claim. They are the worst carrier I have even had the displeasure of dealing with. Try Liberty Mutual - they are great and always rated high in customer service.

Be careful when you are quoted your prices. I went through the online quote for Gieco, it was going to be about $190 a month, so I went through the enrollment, and set up my account. A few days later I got a call from a Gieco rep saying my insurance was going to be $500 a month because of 'combining factors'. I couldn't get an answer out of the as to what those factors were, so who knows.

I pay $210 a month for a 2008 BMW 335i Coupe. That is for German insurance too. I dont have any tickets so I bet those tickets are getting you. USAA here.

Yikes. That's a lot. I have an 09' C63 AMG and its only $155.00 a month with $500 deductible.

Does anyone know what companies pull from what bureaus? I have a good EX but bad EQ TR. Amfam is using EQ and the rate is killing me. Old with no tickets.

Based on the other thread...no tickets but a bunch of claims payouts PLUS a suit against the carrier.

There was some company advertising the other day about doing comparisons amongst a number of carriers.  Zebra or something similar.  I was not paying much attention since I am content with the two carriers I have (one for the regular vehicles and one for a few of the specialty vehicles).  I've never heard of your current carrier, so I have no idea if they are crappy like the gecko or Flo or the one that Shaq shills for.

Also ensure that your underwriter is aware of all of the issues that might entitle you to discounts, to include college degree or short drives to work.  Play with coverages if you have multiple vehicles.  If you have one you don't drive often, then keep a comprehensive coverage while it is garaged but ditch the collision and liability (which would not typically be required if you were not driving it).  Some carriers have other discounts that may come into play if you bundle other coverages, whether home or rental policies or an umbrella liability policy.

Of course the vehicle itself is a variable that has to be accounted for...some new vehicles on the market don't have the loss experiences in the first year or two.  The F-Type was cheap at first...then they realized just how much the cars cost to fix once they gained some loss underwriting experiences.  As I recall, the Fiat 124 (the platform share with the Miata) also was in the same boat but for a different reason...
