So $240 debt from a traffic citation in 2003 that I used a public defender for.

Disputed TU on 10/16/09.

Deleted from TU just a few days later.

Then on 11/17/09 I received a letter from the collection agency that the state of wisconsin contracts through demanding payment of the $240 and finally providing validation of debt from the dispute I filed with TU on 10/16. Filed the dispute over the phone with TU.

I know that state debt owed doesn't go by the SOL. They can renew it for another 7 years as I'm aware.

I called TU and they said its their policy to not reinstate a deleted account on your file.

Now I don't want to risk having that happen so should I just pay the $240 and call it a day or am I good here?

Please help.

The problem is, even if they refuse to reinsert the first time, if the state changes CA's it will probably show up again. I personally would just pay it to avoid the state taking my taxes or any hassles that may occur if you get pulled over.

Is it only on TU?

I'm rather wary of collections that are due to the government (whether Federal or State). If $240 isn't going to break the bank, I would pay it but ONLY directly to the state. The CA can pound sand.

It probably won't crop back up on TU, but it could hit EQ or EX...

or deal with the hassles of renewing license or vehicle registration...

Lot's of States are talking to each other nowadays.

yeah good call guys...

it's only on TU... actually it just popped up on TU when I starting fixing my credit. Wasn't on there for as long as I can remember!!! 6 yrs later bammm! It's on there! Now its gone but they want their money still.

$240 wont break the bank. I'm just worried that if I pay the CA (not sure how to pay the state directly). Suppose I could find out.

it's only on my TU and not on any other CRA's...

Anyway to just pay the state and not the CA? OOPS just read that your not sure how to pay the state.. just call the # of whatever state department is trying to collect and they'll tell you.
