Hello all! I have a quick question... I'm starting the process of cleaning up my credit, and I've gotten so far as to get paper copies of all 3 reports and rake through them with a big red marker (a la PsychDoc). I know the next (first) step is to update all of my personal info, but I am recently married, and was wondering what the process would be to change the name on my reports from my maiden name to my new married name. I already have a new SS card and Drivers license, and I've changed it on my bank account also. I don't think I could just call them up and tell them that my name is changed. Pretty sure they would want proof, which I of course have. What should I make copies of to send them? Would a copy of my DL and a current utility bill in my name with my current address on it be enough? Is there anything I should say in the letter? Do you think they would want a copy of my marriage license too? Although I don't feel comfortable sending that... they don't need to know who my husband is, do they? Thanks for all your help in advance!

I would contact each creditor and provide them with the info

to update their account information.

The credit reports will likely update automatically when the

tradelines report.

But why in the world would I call all these collection agencies and give them more info about me???? That sounds like it would be anti-productive to what I'm trying to do. Should I just skip the "update personal info" step in this process and deal with everything in my maiden name? (that's the name all the CAs would have, anyway)

If you update your credit reports, the collection agencies will most likely get your new information. I think the other poster meant your regular creditors, not the CA's. But if you don't want the CA's to get your new info you will have to work with it the way it is now.
