Finally put a small charge on BofA AmEx after a year of dormancy.

For a few years I haven’t been able to pay from the web site, always had to call in.

Have had a BofA card since the 80’s

Discovered I COULD pay from the web site today.

AND I can schedule auto payments for the full balance due. :o

BUT, the last 4 digits of the payment account only looked vaguely familiar.

Googled the routing number, JPMorgan Chase.

What?

I don’t HAVE a Chase checking account.

Think, think, mutter, mutter.

Go through all my checking accounts, nope, none end in those 4 digits.

BUT, those digits sure ring a VERY faint bell.

Scratching head and pulling hair.

How on earth did this account end up as a payment account for BofA.

Half an hour later, AHA!

I fired Merrill Lynch almost 4 years ago.

Their CMA checking is handled through Chase.

I’d removed that account from all my credit cards in ’06.

But, I couldn’t access payment accounts on BofA till today.

Getting older, I guess.

Getting older too much mileage on me, I guess.

Corrected. It's not the age, it's the juggling of dozens and dozens of accounts...and our reliance on Quicken to help out. If it's not showing in my Quicken, then by Tang's Law, it probably doesn't exist! But I still check...

Why not set that automated payment to go through as soon as the statement cuts? Scary to wait till the last day...things go wrong sometimes. Ya know?

Tang:

I DON'T trust the autopay system.

So, I manually pay soon after statements cut, *IF* I forget to pay BEFORE they cut.

The autopay is a backup in case I screw up.

Yeah, it's kind of Quicken's fault.

I hide all closed accounts, so it didn't occur to me to look at the closed Merrill Lynch CMA.

*Shew*...good....that second posting was making me nervous just looking at it. I should've known, of course...you're extra attentive to payments. Sorry, I was in "Daddy Mode" when I posted earlier, and sounded preachy. Gotta watch how my postings come across when I'm in D mode. :P

I have my alerts set to as early as possible. :)

mclc:

Over 50 open and active.

I know one account number, my local credit union.

The rest I rely on Quicken.

Bob

P.S. I also know one credit card number, my Platinum, only because I've entered it SO many times.

Every few months, I print out a list of all my Quicken accounts with numbers and passwords.

Put in safe, just in case.

Just started using quicken(thanks for the help Bob), is it my banks(and CC's) fault it's not updating in real time? I go online and see transactions, go to the accounts and still not there, update, still not there.

If you are using Express Web Connect, aka One Step Update or Scheduled Updates, the servers are sometimes 1-2 days behind the financial institutions' sites.

*IF* you want to go ahead and download via Web Connect, do it manually from the web site, and it SHOULD work.

So, automated method is a little behind manual method.

But what if you forget the combination for the safe? :D

A few people know the combination.

It's in a "hidden" room any way.

With all due respect, I'm not sure I trust someone with your type of handle.

It has nothing to do with honesty, it's either discriptive of my motorcycle roadracing ability or sexual limitations, I can't remember which.
