OK y'all I am starting this today. Anyone want to join or just offer words of encouragement? This is HUGE for me. I have not run since probably junior high. And even then I would usually make stuff up to get out of it LOL

Here is the link if anyone is interested:

Way to go!!!! :):dntknw::lol:

Just remember: no matter how hard it may be in the beginning, it will get easier over time. If you follow the program and take things slow, your body should have no problem adjusting.

I'm in! I ran a few years ago, but have slacked off completely for the last year. It'll suck at first, but it'll be SO AWESOME!

YAY!

I am looking forward to the awesome part :clapping:

Galosha and I keep meaning to do this. Although, it would require metin gup regularly 3 times a week and we fail miserably. Seems like a brilliant plan though

The program probably works just as well alone although more fun if you do it with someone else.

I would probably go to the gym somewhat less often if I didn't have a gym buddy (my sister)

Oh. I'm all over this. You ready? Maybe not today, 'cause I'm still achy. And, did a bike fall on me or something?? 'Cause I got some badass bruises.

Tomorrow. Let's do it.

I DID IT! Well, Week 1 Day 1 hehe

OMG what did I get myself into? It was total hell. I am SO out of shape. I wanted to stop like 8 times. But I got through! And then the awesome part came in, because I did the whole time. I actually did an extra run/walk part because I didn't understand how the app worked LOL

I hope this runner's high thing is not a myth because I think I deserve something after pushing myself like that. HAHAHA

Awesome! You gotta start somewhere, and hardest part is just getting up and DOING it. That's where I keep failing. :D

Exactly. That is what I have a hard time with. I just keep putting it off LOL

Let me know how it goes tomorrow! I hope it's easier since you have running experience.

I know what you mean! Ever since we moved I cannot find my sports bras. I am doubling up with a regular bra and exercise top. Jumping jacks are killing me ;)

Good job, guys! Just take it one workout at a time, and don't overwork yourself. Last year I started in a similar manner, with interval work outs. This past Saturday we did 11.5 miles (although there were too many hills and I did have to have some 1 minute walk intervals, lol). Before you know it, you'll be running road races.

I'm currently debating on a half marathon next month. I'm doing the training, just in case I DO decide to actually run it. We ran the race preview on Saturday and it was hella hard. I need to get mentally perpared.

That is awesome, Marilie! I cannot even imagine 11.5 miles... let alone 3 LOL

I hope you decide to do the half marathon, you've already run it, right?

The couch to 5k program is great. It has helped a lot of people.

I love hearing about new runners so feel free (everyone) to share your successes and the stumbles too!

The first time I ever ran a whole mile I was in my mid 20s and I was flabbergasted that I did it.

Sort of...our training schedule only called for 11 miles that day, but the preview run was actually the first half of the marathon. They mapped it out at 13.5 miles. We didn't run the whole thing. I think I ran about 6.5 miles before I took a break to walk for a minute. It was hard to gauge how much effort to put in because I'm not totally familiar with that side of town, and I couldn't really tell how much we had to go. It took us 2:45 to get back to the YMCA and we pretty much walked the last 2 miles.

This Saturday we will do 12 miles. I think we're going to go down and run that course again. So yeah, I'm probably going to do it. The woman who's idea it was to run this race in the first place, said she was "over it' on Saturday. But she already registered for the race (it's $50), so she's not allowed to be over it.

I said the same thing last year...as you work yourself up to the 3 miles, you will likely keep going past that point. I was a sprinter in high school/college, it was rare for me to run anything over 4 miles back then. I just like the challenge of pushing myself to run faster, or to go further. And then the whole losing inches/getting in shape thing.

I ran Komen Race for the CUre (5K) the first weekend in October. I ran a 15K the 3rd week, and then the Runway 5K on Halloween. It's cool to try and beat my own times. And I just love the race atmosphere, meeting new people, etc. I think you will enjoy the program. Definitely DO NOT accelerate it. Follow the schedule, and if you keep running after that, don't increase your distance more than 10% in a week.
