My son recently had his account closed, as he had some bills come through and lost his job 2 months ago. He had an account with Riverside National Bank, but now it is closed. He gets unemployment and has to wait for the mail man because he doesn't have an acct for direct deposit.

He prefers a bank acct, but is considering one of those ACE Check cashing Payroll Direct Deposit cards.

The only banks I can find in that area are Wachovia (YUCK) BB&T, Suntrust, Regions, Chase and BOFA.

I doubt the latter two will give him an acct.

Anyone have any suggestions??????

That is a really hard area. Try Regions bank, they are NOT using chexsystems right now

I know it is a hard area, that's why I left there five years ago....

Anyway, I will tell him to try Regions. His account was closed about three weeks ago, so I am sure that is time enough to report it to chexsystems.

well tell him to hurry to Regions <_<

I did tell him. I also called one of the branches closest to him. Rep said they sometimes don't even do the CHEXsystems search, sometimes they don't even see them. Told me it is $100 to open an acct (website says $50) and if you are doing a Direct deposit it only costs $5.00 to open.

I also told my son DO NOT ORDER CHECKS! That is what got him in trouble.... a stupid check cash advance.

exactly, they are not using chexsystems anymore but they are however using EWS. I do think your son should be fine seeing that the reporting banks was Riverside National Bank..I could be wrong but I don't believe they report to EWS.

Wow a local.

As someone whom also lives in Melbourne, I would recommend Community Credit Union. They have been one of the best places I have ever banked with. They used to be called Community Educators Credit Union, and the old web address still works (www.cecu.org). Go in and talk to them, they have various things they look at on a point based system. I fell under the requirements, but after we talked for about 10 mins they worked with me and gave me an account. Unlike most banks, they just want to understand what is going on and not rely completely on a score. They are quite forgiving and very helpful, even got me a car loan and loc after 6 months plus set me up with a secured CC which unsecured 9 months later.

Community Credit Union is a good one unless you are reported to chexsystems. they do use chexsystems and they also pull a credit report.

From my experience, while they do pull credit, and chex, they do not exclusively base their decision on this, there seems to be about 14 items they score (from what I remember) on a tally sheet, and if your score is above a certain point, no questions asked, below that and you are not automatically turned down, but they will ask you questions and want to understand what lead to your current situation. As long as you are honest and upfront with them, they seems to be able to overlook alot. When I went, my credit was trash, I was in chex, and had a bankruptcy. After a while of talking with the manager, I had my account.

So, do not pass on them automatically, go and talk to them, you might be supprised.
