Hello,

I just applied for a bill consolidation loan. I was denied due to a "serious deliquency" on my credit report. When i checked it National Education has placed a 60 day past due on my account with them on a loan that should be in deferrment. Now a little background this loan went back into repayment in July. I immediately called them as i am in residency and need the loan to be put into deferrment. No problem said the rep just send in a defferment request form. I did that. Then they called and said that since i got married and my name changed they needed proof of name change. Ok so i did that. Well then I kept getting phone calls saying they did not recieve the information. I faxed probably ten times the same forms over and over again. Finally they said the problem is fixed and i am back in defferment. Now i check my credit and they reported 60 days late way back in July. WTF? What can i do to get this off my credit report? Basically i am being penalized for their incompetence!

Now that they've realized their mistake and gotten you into deferment, have you called them to let them know about this reporting error? You could try that, or you might also try disputing the lates directly with the CRAs.

My experience has been you are probably stuck with the lates. This is why I always recommend that people continue paying on their student loans until they actually get something in writing stating that the deferrment is in effect.
