Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone had any helpful information on what would be a better choice in trying to pay off my debt sooner. I am currently around $5000 in debt, with most of it being CC's. I was looking into debt counseling and was wondering if there was a difference between a debt counseling program and a CCCS?

My goal is to be debt free in 2 years if possible and raise my fico score. Currently it is at 571.

Any reviews or recommendations on CCCS or debt counseling programs would be greatly appreciated. I've read the horror stories of bad businesses practices in regards to sending late payments or no payments at all to the card companies.

All or any info would be greatly appreciated.

Are you past due on any accounts? What are the amount owed, credit limit, interest rate, and minimum payment of each account? how much do you have monthly to pay down your debt?

I am past due on 3 accounts. Total owed per account I would have to check to break it down but they are all maxed out. Interested rate is 22%+ on all. As of now I have qualified for the "hardship" program.

Is it better to keep paying on the accounts or go into a cccs program? I have about $200 to pay down debt per month, maybe even $300

Thanks for the response ;)

What are the terms of the hardship program? Sometimes the internal programs are a better deal than what you'd get through CCCS.

The terms are only for 1 year, and it closes my account. Minimum payment is $20/month.

Did they do anything with the interest rates? A DMP (CCCS) plan will require the accounts be closed too.
