I had the honor and privilege of serving on the parent advisory board for the Children's Television Workshop to help develop the Sesame Street programs they offer for children of service members.

If you would like to visit the CTW/Sesame Street website for more information, it can be found here. You can download the materials, music and videos for free!

More from Sesame Street about this series:

Talk, Listen, Connect

Deployments, Homecomings, Changes

In recognition of the contributions made by the United States Armed Forces, Sesame Workshop presents this bilingual educational outreach initiative designed for military families and their young children to share.

We are proud to offer support to help military families as they face challenging transitions.

This bilingual (English and Spanish) multimedia outreach program is designed to support military families with children between the ages of two and five who are experiencing deployment, multiple deployments, or a parent's return home changed due to a combat-related injury.

My DD who is ten might get some benefit out of this, My brother and sister are being deployed, And it seems like when we told her, she is paying attention to the news lately. I find myself turning off the news when she is in ear shot.

Absolutely! Even though it is technically geared to the younger kids it is very universal. We helped Sesame Street keep it "realistic" when they developed it. Having been through it so many times with our own children, we could certainly relate.

Each child reacts in their own way. Your daughter is old enough to understand what is in the news, but not mature enough to realize that what she sees may not apply in any way to her aunt and uncle's status. If you approach her concerns with gentle discussion on her thoughts, fears, or feelings, she will become more relaxed about what she's absorbing in the news.

Let me know if you find the downloads helpful!
