did you bother to read?

But when she was told by store staff a purchase of that size on a credit card would require photo identification, she cancelled the sale and left.

A staff member followed her out to the store's parking lot and wrote down her licence plate number.

Still not sure of the point you're trying to make. A dishonest person perpetrated identity theft snf credit card fraud. The fact that one clerk in one store followed her and got her license number because she wouldn't show her ID didn't prevent her from charging thousands of dollars in other stores and online. I never show my ID either and I would have done the same thing she did. If any clerk followed me out to my car they would be wasting their time. So what's the point.

This is exactly why I don't think it is a biggie to show identification. At least *some* fraud was prevented and we all pay for fraud blah blah blah.

I was asked for ID in L'Occitane the other day. I briefly thought of saying something and then realized that I just don't care that much.

That was a rare incident. ID does almost nothing to prevent fraud.

And since when does a store clerk become an authority figure to paying customers ( not that she was one) ? Where does this mentality of "show me your papers" end?

she tried to buy 5000 dollars worth of items and got turned down for REFUSING To show ID . no one said you had to use cash just show your id or god forbid write a check. Even your own company demands ID when buying goods over 100 dollars these days. What have you done to eliminate that?

ID required for CASH (MONEY GRAM) and MONEY ORDERS (over a certain amount)

ID required for a CHECK (random)

ID required for any large CASH SALE (merchandise) $X,XXX.XX

I show no ID every single time I spend over $100

Perpetuate the MYTH

also best buy likes the check ID for any credit card purchase as well. Ive left there with the stuff at the counter because I wouldnt show mine just in case you think im picking on walmart I figured I would include this as well.

Completely prohibited. Immediately call 1-800-VISA-911. Make sure that horribly behaving store shapes-up and never asks for ID again.

Never show ID for credit card purchases.

No ID required for credit card purchases. Merchants cannot require ID.

If a merchant tries to require ID, immediately call 1-800-VISA-911 to ensure they never do again.

VISA: 1-800-VISA-911

MasterCard: 1-800-300-3069

Also easily report merchant violations online:

http://www.mastercard.com/us/personal/en/c...violations.html

Check the box that says "Merchant required ID"

Make sure your community is 100% violation-free.

It stopped the fraud for that merchant, and as far as that merchant is concerned, that's major.

And the "show me your papers" analogy crap is just that... crap. Trying to compare asking for ID with a credit card purchase to serious and life and liberty threatening practices of Naziism and Aparthied is insulting and hyperbole of the highest degree.

Any serious in-store crook will have fake ID.

How about the non-serious ones? :D

... I AM NOT A CREDIT CARD THIEF THEREFORE I DO NOT SHOW ID.

...and all people in prison are innocent.

I fully believe you are not a credit card thief, but a credit card thief would say the same thing.

Do you mean with CCs? I have not experienced that at W-M.

I once wrote BB's corporate HQ after I was asked for ID and received a letter apologizing and stating that this was not their practice. This was almost 4 years ago, though.

Completely prohibited. Immediately call...

Hey Cont.

I have seen cards denied many times, but cashier/security dont run after them. There must be something that shows on the screen lost or stolen card or retain customer.

Wrong. The cashier can call in for verification, but cannot require ID.

Im not saying that the visa requires the id and the company shouldnt but if they want to all you can do is say no and walk out they dont have to sell you anything and all you can do is walk and file a complaint. If walmart is doing what they want to do Visa and Mastercard arent going to say much as is obvious right now.
