I took out some library books in July 2004 from the university library. I thought that I had returned them (I was going through a separation and divorce at that time so my memory is fuzzy). Months later I received a collection notice from a CA for $500 for the books. I did find one book and returned it to the library, but I have no clue about the other books. Does my state sol (6 years) apply to this collection or is this debt (unreturned university library books) now treated like a student loan in which sol does not apply? I receive calls from the CA about once a week or so (sometimes they call my work), but I never talk to anyone. I do not remember if I ever sent a dv, but I do not get letters from them anymore, just calls. The collection has never appeared on my credit report. How should I handle this? Thanks.

Educational debts including library charges have no SOL if it is from a public or non profit school. Public can put in for state tax offset
