Has anyone applied for a checking account w/Citibank online? Do the use Chex? Do the pull credit reports? Which one? I am just curious to see if anyone that was listed on Chexsystems got an account and it stayed open. Thanks!

They do use chexsystems but lately several people have indicated to me that they were able to open accounts with them. I haven't figured out what the deal is yet

I opened one earlier this month. I'm on Chex until October. Don't know who they pulled. So far so good. They even called me to open savings too after the checking was open.

I opened an account this past sunday online. I received my Debit card in the mail today and activated it, just waiting on my checks. I am in chex systems. I am worried they will find out and close the account. Generally how long after opening the account should I worry about it getting closed?

Thanks

Thanks guys on the feedback on your experiences with Citibank. I thought I had a chex entry but when I got my report it had nothing on it. I had Citibank for along time when I was living in the northeast but because they have no locations in the area I live now(AL) I won't get an account.

I believe that they reimburse ATM fees if you don't live close to a financial center, but also they have atms in 7-11 if you have one near you.

No 7-11'either, I live right outside the Birmingham area and I would think they would have a 7-11 everywhere but not here, lol. I wasn't aware of the reimbursement on the fees. I like to at least have a branch close enough to drive to and from even if it is to Atlanta about a hour and half away or to Chattanooga 2 hours away because I go to those cities often but they do not have branches in those cities either.

Two weeks ago I decided to apply for a Citibank checking account online (their "EZ Checking" account). I already had a regular savings account with them (I've had that for years), and some Citibank issued credit cards. I logged onto online banking (which shows my savings and credit card accounts), and applied from there.

After clicking the button that indicated I really wanted a checking account, about 15 seconds later their website told me my account was open and I could add money to it immediately. Sure enough, the new account showed in my online banking, so I transferred some money from my savings account to initially fund it.

I checked my credit reports a few time since then (using TrueCredit to view all three), and no hard inquiry was made. I don't know if they ran Chexsystems, since I haven't checked in a while. I'm not listed in Chexsystems as having any problems, so that shouldn't have mattered if they did check.

I have had Citi for about 5 years. I got declined the first time so I went to the branch told them my deal and the opened an Access account. After about 1 year the changed it to a regular account with a savings. Have been great for me.

Just wanted to give an update on my Citibank account. I have several chex entries and my credit is trashed. I applied for a Citibank Ez checking account and was shocked that I got approved. I was using a netspend prepaid debit card for almost 3 years as my banking account due to being on chexsystems. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Citibank I have since opened a saving account and converted my Debit Mastercard to the American Airlines debit card and earn 1 mile for every 1 dollar I spend. I have not overdrawn my account since opening it and I dont plan on doing it ever again. I thank Citibank for opening an account for me and plan on being a life long customer.

That's good to hear everything has worked out for you. If you don't mind me asking how old are your Chex entries. Is it safe to say that Citibank does not use Chex?

I think the last entry on chex is from a year ago. I don't know enough about Citibank to say that they don't use chex. But I think it is safe to say they did not use one in my case.

You must have gotten lucky, that's cool, lol. I feel these agencies such as Chex and EWS should not determine whether or not you should get an account with any bank. I understand risks the banks take for customers that default but those reports can be misleading and don't tell the whole story especially if the customer was not at fault sometimes.

I'm glad it worked out for you though.

Chexsystems and EWS would be the first ones to tell you that they do not determine if a bank opens an account for you or not. They would state that the bank uses the information that they provide to determine that.
