Although the up side is that I've seen many times that when a bank takes over another bank they will remove. Something like the outdated or negative records don't transfer over to the new bank and they are unable to verify the debt. Dispute and see what happens. Also pay attention to WHICH bank is listed on you report, the old one or the new one. That should give some clue. However, dispute anyways. Dispute with a specific reason.

MCA SIDEBAR: Any benefit in disputing and saying that there was never a relationship with the newly listed bank? Would they then have to remove?

what happened is one time I went NSF with bank of NY

bank of NY was then bought by CHASE

on my chex report CHASE is listed as the NSF bank

so like you said, Id like to dispute it as never having an acct with them

about the CCCU thing, lol im not a religious catholic, the reason i tried to get a CC with them is because I thought it would be a bit easier, they denied me
-they pulled chex, not any of my CRs, weird

Were you applying for membership at the same time? They pull Chex for any membership and do what they said is a surface scan of your credit. This is the email they sent me when I inquired about it last week.

Dear crazymonkeycat,

Thank you for your interest in Christian Community Credit Union. In regards to your inquiry, we do not run a credit report for new share accounts with CCCU. As part of our new account opening process, we do pull a TRW3 Surface Scan which is not an inquiry on your credit report. The Surface Scan does not list any of your debts. It is merely a glimpse of your credit rating. I assure you we do not pull a credit report when opening deposit accounts with us. Only a loan request will result in your full credit report being viewed.

I'm sure you've gotten my point by this time but I just realized that letter doesn't say anything about Chex and that is what I was going for. Ha. So sorry about that. Yes they do indeed pull Chex as mca said. I wrote so many CU's trying to find their policies I just assumed this response had all the right info in it. Sorry!
