I am not looking to spend a small fortune, just something for myself, my drivers have spouses that carry them under their ins, but I need some.

Last time I checked it was outreagous.

1500 a YEAR! good lord my estimate on my bill was 4637.00, the price of the policy isn't bad though, do they have higher limits?

AND, my 16yro needs braces that is another 3250

i looked at one plan - $20/mo per covered family member and there was a 6 - 12 month waiting period for most services. I forget if braces were covered - it wasn't a selling point as my kids are out of braces. The coverage we had for braces when we needed it was capped at like $1000 or 1500. (Employer went BK right before youngest started her braces so we had to pay 100%).

There are some dental discount cards- i think cit biz card has it on the paid version of their prescription card (free with citi biz cards). I've never used it because my dentist doesn't accept it, but i've heard that the discounts are not bad - add it to the $60 I'm saving by not paying for ins, and its not a bad deal. (Sams Advantage used to have a similar plan.)

Alternately, ask if the dentist will give a cash (green stuff or check) discount - it may be a better deal than dental ins for 12 -36 months @ $15/mo (our braces coverage paid a portion each yr, only if coverage was still in force).

Unfortunately, the highest you're probably going to find is about $1,500 - no matter who you go thru. And most don't cover braces on their regular dental plans. They just don't give much for dental. And, pretty much everyone is going to require a 6-12 month wait before any major work can be done.
