I guess for many reasons!

I am in Texas and pre and post judgement the creditor can place a levy on your account (freezing it).

Other than that....I think it would make me more aware of what I am spending and how much. For example, I planned on putting what I needed on the prepaid to pay my bills and then pay cash for everything else.

Here are the things to look for:

- is it reloadable

- what are the fees for reload, atm, monthly fees

- what is the most you can add?

Amex used to have an awesome Travelers Check Card that you could put up to $2K and was reloadable for $5. I think they discontinued it and i am not sure if they have replaced it, but i would look into Amex if i were you...they tend to have higher loading limits and lower fees. (although..i have not seen the walmart card mentioned above).

I have been with NetSpend for 4 years, very simple, go online fill out info get the card in the mail in a few days. Activate it online or by phone, go to a reload center and deposit $10 on the card to pay for it, deposit however much more on your card to use it freely. $1 for credit transactions, $2 for debit transactions. Even have direct deposit, once you have had at least $500 directly deposited by your job or a single organization into your account you get upgraded to netspend premier which has a good line of credit. Great prepaid card, no monthly fees unless you chose one of those plans. I've been a PAY AS YOU GO customer for 4 years. LOVE IT. Just got NetSpend Premier.

If you direct deposit your paycheck, it could provide

an easy trail to levy the account.

I think in your position, I would choose the WalMart card.

You can cash your paycheck in the store anytime before

10pm ($3 fee) and reload your card.
