USAA just opened the banking side back up for the general public. Yes, they may use Telecheck and EWS, the latter I can not verify, as I have banked with them for almost five years. However, they are a great bank with excellent benefits. Just call 800-832-3724 or 800-531-bank and tell the representative you want to open a savings and checking. Both offer no fees and plenty of extras. Plus, you can set everything up over the phone with a $25 opening on both accounts I believe.

I can vouch for this .. I use them as my daily bank and they are great.

+1. Can't recommend them highly enough. Why on earth did I stay so long with BOA?

With telecheck they will deny you right away. With EWS, they are approving and closing the account later (this is much the same situation that I am seeing with most banks and credit unions that use EWS, they initially approve and close later.) I don't understand why the report is not ran immediately during the application process

I have USAA but haven't opened up a checking with them yet, still with BOFA. I'm in Chex and that was the main reason I haven't bothered. Does USAA allow cash deposits thru ATM services like BOFA?

NO you can not deposit money to an account at USAA unless you live near one of their ATMs in San Antonio TX

USAA's basic banking products are open to the general public again (they've gone back and forth between general public and military only)

The credit cards offered to non-military are lesser than those offered to "full" members, and non-military are not eligible for certain services at all, including insurance.

USAA is a CU right? What's the membership criteria?

no they are not a CU. generally you have to be affiliated with the military of some sort to get in and or live in Bexar County TX.

Ok, gotcha. Thanks.

So just so I understand this correctly:

1.) You don't have to be a member to get a checking and savings.

2.) They use Telecheck and EWS, but not Chexsystems.

3.) Credit cards are offered to members only, both military and non-military.

Is that right? Sorry if I'm being redundant. I just want to be sure of this before I apply.

Once you open any sort of account you are a "member". But you are a member of a lesser level than someone joining who meets the military qualifications.

Anyone can apply for their card, military or not. The benefits/terms offered to military members are better though.

I opened an account a few years ago and they gave me a membership number before I was able to apply for a checking. I was told that I had to have a membership number first. Maybe this has changed, I am not sure

yes USAA uses telecheck and ews now. They do not use chexsystems but unfortunately many people reported to chexsystems are also reported to ews

I forgot to mention, my dad is ex-military and has an account with USAA. I have not enlisted (therefore I am non-military) and am asking if I qualify for Deposit@Home.

Sorry for not stating that above!

Before I apply, can someone please let me know if Deposit@Home available to non-military accounts?

Adding to this so I don't make a new thread, I have a Checking and Savings with these guys, if I looked into opening a CD or IRA with these guys will they pull another inquiry on Telecheck?

Update:

I just opened a checking and savings account with them today over the phone. It was really quick and easy. She gave me my member number first and because I'm non-military I have limited access. But she did say that since my dad was a marine, she will call him and see if he will take out a auto insurance policy with them or something and then she will call me back and extend full membership to me if he joins them. I told her "yeah, good luck with that." My dads really finicky about these things. But I'm just happy to have the checking and savings. I'll try for the secured card pilot program a little later.

Thanks CB! <_<
