My purse was stolen on Sunday and I reported my checks stolen as well. I went into the branch on Tuesday to open 3 new business accounts to replace the ones that were compromised. Today I went to deposit monies into the new account and it was frozen as well as the old ones. Come to find out, all of my account are frozen because I owed the bank $600 from 1999.

Well I was allowed to open these business accounts in 2005 through the second chance program and have not had a problem since. Now I have to wait 30 days and then possibly get the difference back in a check. My dilemma is I have my visa/mc payments going to these accounts. I have my monthly state Medicaid payments coming to these accounts as well.

The only silver lining is I opened 2 business accounts at BOA a year ago. Today, I open another new account and will redirect my monies for next month. It's gonna be a pain, but it's doable. Moral of the story....

Do not trust the banks. When Chase took over, they closed my secured card and now they are researching charged off bills 10 years old and taking their monies back. I'm glad as heck I did not open a cd with them

WAMU is one of the absolute worse banks when it comes to closing accounts on people. Over the past 7 years I can not begin to tell you the horror stories that I have heard about them. I am hoping that Chase might be a bit better. Chase does offer second chance checking but they even turn down people that are not reported to chexsystems because of credit issues.

Please note that anything reported to chexsystems should be removed after 5 years. If it is not, send them a letter and request that they remove you and they will

BTW, there is nothing on chexsystems regarding this issue. This came from the back office. They are researching every account and if you owe them for a credit card, bank account, loan, they will take the monies from you. They call this offsetting the account.

UPDATE!!!

WAMU/Chase got mad that I didn't pay their stupid fee from 1998 and are now reporting me. I found out when I went to reopen a new account at Regions and they closed all of my accounts with them. The branch manager said she will work to get them reopened if i can fix this mess with WAMU/Chase. I'm awaiting a chexsystem report now cuz I can't wait to see what they have the nerve to report.

when was the last time that you paid on this account? 1998? If so, it should not be reported to chexsystems anymore. regions does not use chexsystems anymore, they only use EWS. You must be reported to EWS as well.... Many people reported to chexsystems or telecheck are also reported to EWS. If you were reported in 1998 and no payments were made since then, you should be removed from EWS as well. They can not re-age the debt

My mom had a repo with Chase 13 years ago, and she just tried to open a checking with them in the last few weeks and she was turned down because of the repo. Chase I have heard goes back even further.

Some banks keep their own personal records yes but chexsystems removes all records after they are 5 years old

they re-aged the debt by saying i had a suspected fraudulent account with them in 1/09. good thing i kept the letter they sent me saying they were closing my accounts and the letter saying i was getting a refund from the accounts. if they are trying to get payment for that debt back in 1998, they are going about it the wrong way.

is that even legal? Im worried because I have some defaulted student loans with Citibank and I just opened a checking with them. I thought they needed a judgment to even touch your account and that doing so without your permission (without a judgment) could land them in serious trouble legally? Glad I saw this thread, by the way!
